Light + Shade is two disc concept album that has two different genres of music to reflect two different moods. The first album includes many bright and quiet pieces whilst the second album has a much darker and somber feel to it. This reminds me of Jarres and Kraftwerks albums that also had themes to them. The booklet is a very interesting story that is divided into two with one Light side and one shade side. The photographs are of impeccable quality. We also get a nice of what he plays on each album. I really like how he uses the Vocaloid technology. 5/5.

It's funny, I've been a fan of Mike's forever (I have the original Tubular Bells... on VINYL, for crying out loud), but I had been getting tired of the older sound. The sound he has on this double album is definitely a modern one, and one that really works for me. I can see some people who liked his older stuff not liking this, but it's apples and oranges, really. If you like the idea of Mike Oldfield doing electronica/trance/techno, you'll really like this album. If not... well... i wouldn't buy it. =)Free Music Review: Great!!

I'm not aware of the previous Oldfield's production, but I listened to this CD and I found it impressive...
Good to relax, greats sounds... and as well good to dance...
I sow same "bad" reviews about it... and I wonder... if his former albums are better than this one, he's a real genius!!!

There are several absolutely gorgeous tracks on this album, including my favourite "Sunset". There are some less good too, but worth buying in my opinion,
