I have to admit there are only a few of his works I truly enjoy, The Songs of Distant Earth (VERY SOOTHING)Is by far his very best in my opinion but this one being opposite in beat is a good one to listen to whem you need a burst of energy. I just discovered him while looking around forsomething different. I am not an expert on his sound but some of his Cd's left me wondering just what was he thinking?. The older ones are far better. Take advantage of Amazon's ability to listen to music. Listen to this one before taking anyone else's word on what you may or not may like, You just might find it is better than the reviewer who compaired him to Picaso say's it is!Free Music Review: Another success for Mike...

Mike oldfield is one of my favorite artists. I believe I have most all of his work. Admittedly, some of his works are better than others. Mark this one in the "better" category.
Mike Oldfield has a certain style, unique and identifiable. After 33 some odd years, Mike's latest work proves that he has not lost his touch. And, while there are certainly a couple of albums I would not recommend to any, but the most loyal of fans, "Light and Shade" does NOT fall into that category. Representing a return to the "classic Oldfield style," whether you are a fan or just a casual listener, this album will not disappoint.

Free Music Review: Improves with each listen

Like many other reviewers of this double-cd, I was beginning to feel that Mr Oldfield had lost his touch. Upon first listening to this album, I found it to be ok, not great, but ok. But being a die hard fan, I kept coming back to it, and it grew on me. I came to quite enjoy both cd's, especially the "Light" cd, with its standout, sensational songs "Our Father" and "Sunset". The second cd takes a few more listens, but I have come to like it just as much. Be patient folks; not every album is an instant classic! Give this one a fair chance, and if you are a fan of Mike's music, you will find yourself rewarded with lots of great tunes.Free Music Review: Mike is coming back

Still not at the level of tubular bells,amarok and the like, but much better than t3es lunas, and not as simply classified as this last one, in my opinion. As mike's old composition, the great ones, this one represents a difficult task for the seller in order to find a stand in the shop to show the cds. Chill out? New age? Techno-rock? Just Mike. That's why it seems Mikes coming back from the shadows of the last albums, still good music in my opinion, but not in the line of the very best from Mike (which is still the most)Free Music Review: MIke's best since "Songs of Distant Earth"

I too have been a fan of Mike Oldfield ever since Tubular Bells (the first one). Like much of Mike's music, I find that the more I listen to it, the more I get out of it and the more I like it. For me, the music of Mike Oldfield is salve for the soul and this album is truly no exception. Featuring Mike's exceptional, beautiful guitar work, piano, vocalizations, etc. If you're a Mike fan, odds are you're going to like this 2 cd set. Let's hope that Mike keeps makin em.
