Free Music Review: Very creative and somehow retrospective.
Hit: 5 Stars

It reminds me in some aspects to many of his past masterpieces, like Tubular Bells, Ommadawn and QE2, using a good Orchestra, on a very first class scenario, on Bilbao's Gugenheim Arts Museum as scenario. It's a kind of walk across his past masterpieces.

It should be used as a film soundtrack.

Very good sound quality, altough I miss a Collector's Edition DVD, with the video in 5.1 and special features.

I found it a little bit short, but of a very good quality. As usual, Mike likes to introduce a base melody and plays with it all along the disc on many ways (as anyone else can), as he did in the past with Amarokk.

I am looking forward a disc that does not use at all the concept of Tubular Bells, and use instead of it, the Incantations scheme. A really breakthrough masterpiece.

Good Job, Mike! It was a quite fine job!!

"Buy it!, You will not be disapointed".

Free Music Review: By Itself.
Hit: 5 Stars

Mike Oldfield has created a musical work which transcends other music. As you are carried through the elegant sounds of the orchestra, there are bits and pieces of things you may have heard before. The way the work moves from theme to theme and back again makes all of it richer and more satisfying than anything you have ever heard before. The (French) Horn passages are as beautifully written and performed as any I have ever heard. The soprano lines are unforgettable in their pure high tone. The way the different instruments are showcased - piano, guitar, harp, oboe, timpani, flute, strings and the amazing brass with all the perfect fifths - takes you to heavenly places one after the other. This has become my favorite piece of music. When I have to go for an hour drive, I take the cd with me. I have listened to it many times. It always uplifts me.

Free Music Review: Music of the Spheres both in name and in definition
Hit: 5 Stars

The term 'Music of the Spheres' or 'Musica Universalis' is used to describe the perfect harmony of 'sounds' that the universe and its bodies make. It has long been used as a term to describe something which is in perfect harmony.

Mike Oldfield's Music of the Spheres is everything the term implies. It is a perfect harmony of music, combining the talent of the genius with his work and the work of other classical music to create this album.

I would describe Music of the Spheres as a classical version of Tubular Bells, because it truly is in the Classical music genre. Modern Classical might be the best way to describe it.

Think of a Tubular Bells version written by Mozart or Bach, with modern technology and mathematically perfect, and you get Mike Oldfield's Music of the Spheres. It leaves you thinking: "Wow!"

Free Music Review: Yet another variation of Tubular Bellls, in Classical style
Hit: 5 Stars

Mike Oldfield fans will readily recognize Tubular Bells side one in this classical music style composition. This is not, however, the orchestral version of Tubular Bells which we have already heard. It is a variation on the theme blending classical music with the modern guitar and the variety of instuments Mike Oldfield is known for. Fans of classical music will find something new and interesting here. Fans of Mike Oldfield will enjoy hearing Mike Oldfiled with a variation on the familiar theme in a new genre. Mike Oldfield says in his liner notes that he believes that this is the music that moves the spheres of the universe. I believe he is sincere as listeners will hear the familar haunting theme that runs through almost all of his music.

Free Music Review: Oldfield's Opus 1
Hit: 5 Stars

Mike Oldfield was originally going to call his first album "Opus 1", rather than "Tubular Bells". "Music of the Spheres" is Oldfield's true Opus 1. He has created a wonderful classical piece.

When I heard that Oldfield had gone classical, I was concerned that he created something totally experimental and far afield from his previous works that I enjoy so much. I was pleased he chose to start with the next evolution of "Tubular Bells" and then take off from there.

It all works for me. I'm so glad Mike Oldfield's creativity is alive and well.
