IMHO - I've completely enjoyed Mike Oldfield's music since the release of Tubular Bells and Ommadawn is one of my personal favorites. Many people say that this is Oldfield's peak. Well, although I love this recording, to make that sort of statement would be like saying, blue is better than green. Oldfield has created a superb musical catalog as a whole, no doubt. Ommadawn was and still is incredible and beautiful. I personally love it and have enjoyed it since it's release as with all the Oldfield recordings that I have (I think that I have them all). From the first time I heard Ommadawn until now, 25 years later, the last 6 or 7 minutes of Ommadawn Side 1, IS the greatest piece of music the Lord has ever allowed someone to write and perform. As a huge music fan in the prog rock realm (major Yes and Gentle Giant fan), when people ask me what is my favorite piece, without hesitation it is this. Also consider getting (if you can) the Essential Mike Oldfield video which has a great Ommadawn live rendition (and you get to see Mike and the boys thrash about on the drums at the end! )Free Music Review: One For The Ages

I have been listening to this composition at suitable intervals for 30 years now. Many of the reviewers here sound like this is about the best thing they've ever heard. Count me in. In one effort this album established the breadth of perspective of New Age music on par with classical music. Hundreds of years from now when people want to hear only the best of our era, this work will be there. Tubular Bells is Oldfield's wonderful if playful signature composition, but Ommadawn is his masterpiece.Free Music Review: Magnifico!!!!

Always when I listen to Ommadawn what comes to my mind is how Mike could do such a perfect album even knowing that he's a perfect musician. The first time I took Ommadawn in my hands it was long, long ago on a second hand record shop here in Rio. It was a brand new copy, and no scratches. Now on cd, it's better than never. If I had to talk more about Ommadawn, I would take many, many hours to describe how wonderful it is. Genius!!! A billion star rate.Free Music Review: Magnifico!!!!
