Although not as well known as Tubular Bells, Ommadawn is definitely one of the best pieces of instrumental music in recent years. After listening to it a couple of weeks ago the music keeps playing in my head. The music sounds very pure and has a feeling of innocence and beauty. The last part the Horseback song is childlike but also is consistent with the purity of the music in the rest of the album. Ive always loved Mike Oldfields work although his latter suff hasn't impressed me as much. This album along with Hergest Ridge and of course Tubular Bells are his masterpieces. Ommadawn is my favourite out the three, its a beautifully constructed treasure that never seems to age with time. Ive been listening to this album since I was 6 and 15 years later I still play this record religously it's that good do yourself a favour and buy it now!Free Music Review: Nothing Mike Oldfield has written tops this!!

I'm only missing a couple of his releases now and none of them match this recording. I heard it first at 14 and fell in love, 16 years later it is still my absolute favorite recording and the one I would choose if I could only have one CD. I wore out the vinyl and two copies of the cassette before CD's came out. This is without a doubt the most sensual piece of music ever recorded, Bolero ain't got nothing on Ommadawn!Free Music Review: Another one of Oldfield's early masterpieces.

Like Tubular Bells, Ommadawn consists primarily of two long, progressive instrumental compositions, accomodating the 2-sided nature of the time's vynil LPs.
A bit more tame and etherial, and classical in structure, this is probably his most sophisticated piece. Like Tubular Bells, it foreshadows new-age classical, but with a distinctively atmospheric quality not unlike that of ambient music two decades later.

Ommadawn is the OLNY music that let you come in peace with your self and nature and god and ....I can not describe the feelings when i hear ommadawn ,it's just perfect .I'm an amateur astronomer and i like to here some music when i'm out in the nature alone in the darkness with my telescope .Well Ommadawn is the olny music that i have found to make me feel like i fly up in the stars.........
