Free Music Notes for PlatinumFree Music Review: Another year, another style! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a real mix. There's the typical Oldfield guitar/rock instrumental with backing synths on side one. But he then drops in splashes of brass and sax stabs on one piece to give it a real 30's 'Charleston' feel. Weird, but it works. There is a live piece on this album as well called 'punkadiddle' which is amusing. 'Platinum' is another example of Mike's diversity in his long musical journey. A mix of 'unfamiliar' and 'very familiar' sounds which somehow work. If you are a fan then this really is an essential purchase. Give it time.
Free Music Review: Vintage Oldfield - and FUN! Hit: 5 Stars
"Platinum" holds a special place in Oldfield's discography. It is different from Tubular Bells and from his current work. A good share of the music here is tongue-in-cheek, and is a romp of sorts. There is a nod to the Charleston, as well as a quote from Philip Glass' "North Star". Also worth mentioning is Oldfield's version of "I've Got Rhythm". I've been an Oldfield fan for decades, and "Platinum" remains one of my favorites - it's upbeat, lively, and light-hearted!
Free Music Review: Mike Olfield- Platinum CD Hit: 5 Stars
I had the vinyl record when it originally came out. It was damaged over the years so I got it again on CD. If you like Mike Oldfield, and I have liked most his stuff since the 1970's and the Exorcist soundtrack, it's worth adding to the collection. To me some tracks are better than others but overall a good idea of the range of Mike Oldfield in the 1980's.
Free Music Review: I grows on you Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of Mike's albums that grows on you the more you listen to it. The first 4 tracks are the best, with the 4th being the top of the entire album. The last few tracks sounded a little weak at first, but as I listened to it more it sounded better and better. Get this CD, it's one of his best albums to play air guiter along with ;-)
Free Music Review: Genial! Hit: 5 Stars
Esta musica que escuche por primera vez en El Club de Yetem y que sonaba a las 3 de la manana para indicar la hora de salida. Alli me enamore' de este tema que volvi' a usar como cortina musical de un programa de radio en el año 1998.
