Free Music Notes for Tres Lunas (Bonus CD)Free Music Review: Huge dissapointment Hit: 2 Stars
Well - Mike's last three albums are a real dissapoitment for most of his fans.semms that he got to much into all of this New-age and computer stuff. While "Guitars" were simply boring and without that "something" that Mike's music always had, "Millenium Bell" was a simple mistake - it had maybe 2 good tracks, the rest sounded like a filler.i thought that it was just a small crisis that Mike sometimes had before ("earth Moving","crises") - i was wrong. After two years Mike Had came with "tres lunas" - an interactive music/game experience.this album contains 2 cd's - first one with music, second one with deo game.the demo of the game is definitly not what oldfield fans are thinking when they are buying album so i will write only about music. The album is filled with a modern and sleepy computerised new age music.ok - the tracks here are maybe not horrible, but they all definitive have lackness of soul and good ideas.listen to opening track "Misty" - polished synth sounds, gentle guitar...suddenly out of nowhere the awfull synth saxophone is coming.Oldfield destroyed the beauty of it by himself.the same is with "sirius","No thou art in heaven" or "turtle island".they are simply not good.and "To be free" the only commercial song from here could be simply recorded by anyone else. but thanks god, Mike put some beter stuff too here - "No man's land","return to origin" and more dynamic title track are sounding a bit like good old Oldfield music.but it is too little to give it 3 stars. Anyway - bad album from an Excellent musician. better go ahead and listen to "Songs of hte distant earth".
Free Music Review: Ok, two and a half Hit: 2 Stars
If, like me, you've been a fan of Mike Oldfield's music and still think of Ommadawn or Incantations as masterpieces, you'll probably be disappointed by Tres Lunas. Some tracks may sound good, bu others just don't resonate, and anyway most of them are far too long. Before writing this review, I tried to listen to the record at least 4 or 5 times and in the end I didn't even find it really PLEASANT. The more you listen to it, the more boring it tends to get - it doesn't really grow up on you. As to the saxophone he uses, it doesn't fit with the music. That was a very bad idea I think. Had the record come from someone else, I would have called it a deserving effort - not so great but still promising. Yet, it is Mike Oldfield and as he is such an old hand in the business, he should know better than that. Tres Lunas just doesn't stand up to his usual high standards. I'm starting to think he might be dead as a music composer, but doesn't seem to know it yet.
Free Music Review: Tired of music. Hit: 2 Stars
Me, being a die-hard fan of Mike's music, I must admit that this one does not measure up. Ever since Mike brought us TBIII his path in music has been downhill. Millennium Bell was terrible, so was Guitars and now this. Perhaps not terrible in the way that he's fresh out of ideas. Perhaps more terrible because some lack of interest seems to be going on. Mike is not a medicore musician by nature, infact it's the other way arround. Therefore it's almost heartbreaking to realize that he chooses to do the things this way. Perhaps he's grown tired of music, but if that's the case, he should refrain and spare us the humility. But perhaps he's overdue.
Free Music Review: big step down from his previous works Hit: 2 Stars
this is synthetic and boring instrumental music with horrible Saxophone (as somebody mentioned too before) and lakc of good ideas.the only songs that are reminding of what Oldfield did the best few years ago are "return to Origin" and title track which have charming guitar riffs and are relaxing.the rest (and the PC game as well) are only an unoriginal and repeating new-age stuff that everyone could do on their own Computer. this is not what should be expected from Mike Oldfield 2 stars for "return to origin" (really good song)
Free Music Review: what happened to Mike? Hit: 1 Stars
This is his weakest album ever since.even on his weak albums he wrote some tunes that were stayig in head more than 1 hour.here all songs are boring and sleepy...after 3 listenings you can't remember any catchy or nice riff (maybe except sweet "Return to origin").saimple and unoriginal new-age music.perfect for listening in expensive hotel elevators
