Free Music Notes for Tubular Bells 3Free Music Review: One of his best yet Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a Mike Oldfield fan since the original Tubular Bells, and he hasn't yet produced anything I haven't liked or that I have found disappointing. Over the years he has produced some remarkable albums, experimented with different techniques and sounds, yet at the same time produced a sound that is almost instantly recognisable as his. I haven't listened to "Guitars" yet (so apologies to those who think it's better than TB3), but I think it's fair to say TB3 is his best yet - and TB2 was a hard act to follow! TB3 has a strong, powerful, flowing thread throughout the album, culminating in a very powerful and almost emotional climax (the sound of the tubular bells made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end). Some criticism has been (in my opinion unfairly) levelled at Mike for simply calling the album "Tubular Bells 3", but what's in a name? It's the music that is the important part, and listening to this album you can almost feel the creative energy that went into its production. My advice: even if you never buy another Mike Oldfield album, buy this one!
Free Music Review: Essential Oldfield! Hit: 5 Stars
This album divided hardcore Mike Oldfield fans right down the middle: Many older fans couldn't quite handle the updated techno influence, while younger fans like myself heralded this album as a brilliant synergy of modern electronica and great instrumental genius. The eclectic mix of styles ranges from four-on-the-floor dance beats to etheral vocal passages to gentle new age tracks to hard rock, and yet the album still manages to remain tightly cohesive throughout. In addition, anyone unfamiliar with Oldfield should buy this album. It's a great starting point, especially for younger fans who will appreciate the modern sound. It's a shame this album was never released in the US; it could have cleaned up. Oldfield has managed to take modern techniques and turn them into musical art, something he has done through almost all of his brilliant career.
Free Music Review: The Ultimate Tubular Bells Hit: 5 Stars
To say this is Tubular Bells is a vast understatement. Of course..there are the familiar themes, however, this totally blows you out of the water with the haunting themes and guitar solos throughout. This is Mike Oldfield's best work to date. He shows again that not only is he an original in his field, but, pays very close attention to the sounds that are going on around him. A lot of this reminds me of Enigma and Fragma all rolled into one Celtic package. Trust me, it's a good thing. The vocals and songs here are truly beautiful and just lift this interpretation along the way. I spent several hours playing this just apprectiating how the layers of sound just seem to grab you in and keep you there. A must for any fan, let alone trance and Celtic listeners. You will not be disappointed at all.
Free Music Review: Listen to the Stroy! Hit: 5 Stars
This album has all the elements of a GOOD STORY: Beginning, middle and end. At first, it sounds nice, but then - from the third time and on - you hear a masterpiece of a story! It's mature, diverse, and every scene (track..) moves the story forward - until the emotionally satisfying end of the Tubular Bells! And when the story ends, I just want to listen to it all over again!I don't agree with the other reviewer's comment saying it's nothing special. He probably didn't listen to the stroy of this brilliant album. So don't skip tracks, and stream with the story! There are some tiny traces of the previous two albums (yes there are - if you listen to the small details!), and this one has earned it's place as a most fitting end to the triology! Well done. And I am so proud of you Mike!
Free Music Review: Mike Oldfield did it again Hit: 5 Stars
Mike Oldfield really blew me away with this CD. This has become my favorite of his CDs, even though his other CDs are awsome. Even if you have never heard Mike Oldfield, or don't like his other CDs, this one may change your opinion. It is by far the best music of its type, and some of the best music I have ever heard. Even if you only have just enough money to buy this CD, you should buy it. If you don't have enough money, then GET TO WORK! You need this CD. As one of the other reviews said, this CD really has a great ending, but I would like to see a Tubular Bells IV. The Tubular Bells trilogy has been my favorite of his CDs, and I want to see him continue in that venue. JUST BUY THIS CD!
