Free Music Notes for Miles SmilesFree Music Review: You'll smile too Hit: 4 Stars"Miles Smiles" is thought by some to be the best of Miles' Shorter-Hancock-Carter-Williams group. I'm officially undecided, "E.S.P.", "Sorcerer", "Nefertiti" and this one are all very good. The album starts off pretty well with "Orbits" and "Circle", but really gets into gear with Wayne Shorter's "Footprints". "Dolores" is an uptempo song. "Freedom Jazz Dance" is a slight recasting of an Eddie Harris song - this melody is slightly different than the original, but apparently the Miles Davis version is the way people play it now. "Gingerbread Boy" is a Jimmy Heath song. The improvisation and playing are at a high level throughout. Miles Davis and/or jazz fans should pick this one up.
Free Music Review: ONE OF MILES' SEVERAL EXCELLENT RECORDINGS Hit: 5 StarsMiles Smiles is a masterpiece. This is one of Miles Davis' several excellent recordings and every song is great. Circle has pretty piano to it and relaxes me here. I certainly wish Miles was still alive today. You should get this CD, remember that jazz was one of the greatest styles in music.
Free Music Review: Miles Smiles Miles Davis Quintet Hit: 5 StarsThis is a powerful example of the great Miles Davis. Every member of this band went on to become idols to all of us. This may have been his greatest rhythm section. If you are a real jazz aficionado, you have this one!
Free Music Review: Miles Away Hit: 5 StarsYet another recording that marked the next movement in the career of the Last Great Jazz Giant. Picking up Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter & the lighting quick drummer Tony Williams, Miles was moving Jazz into the future which of course eventually led to his greatest period, the so-called 'electric' era. Stand out tracks on this great recording though is 'Circle', herbie is amazing on the keys, and 'Footprints' with it acoustic, yet African feel. Black musical intellect at its best.
Free Music Review: Miles' best 60's effort Hit: 5 StarsMiles made some good records in the 60's (E.S.P.; Seven Steps to Heaven; plus In a Silent Way which is OK), but never matched this one. It's up there with Kind of Blue and 'Round About Midnight. Every song ranges from excellent, to captivating - the best points are Orbit; the lovely Circles and Dolores. One of Miles' best albums overall, which is certainly saying something.
