Free Music Notes for BreakoutFree Music Review: It is a very good freshman CD for a 15yr old Hit: 4 Stars
Breakout is a very good CD for Mily Cyrus. At her age, with all the Hannah/Disney background, and a ton of fans and haters making opinons on her every move, this is very good enjoyable CD. Is her voice perfect? No but her songs are catchy, singable, dancable and relatable. That is what makes a pop star. Madonna was not a great singer when she started at 17 and some even say she still isn't. But she evolves, she makes us groove, she is constantly in the news and people can't get enough of her. Very similiar to Miley Cyrus today. There is no doubt in my mind most reviews of this CD will be either 1 (for the haters who won't give her a shot) and 5 (for those that will love her no matter what.) It is not the best CD I have ever heard but it will no doubt prove some top 10 hits (7 Things is already there and See You Again is very popular) and stay on the charts until the end of the year. This is all from a 15 year old no less. If people just give CD's a chance without judgement you might find that there is a lot more music out there to love. While she doesn't have the power voice of Christina Aguilara or Celine Dion, she has the stay power of POP that makes her very marketable.
My favorites are Breakout, 7 Things, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, See You Again, and Full Circle.
The songs I am not crazy about are Driveway and Bottom of the Ocean.
Overall this is still a 3.5 star CD that will be heavily played on the radio and girls IPODS everywhere. I also like that her songs while older then Hannah Montana, are still clean and age appropriate unlike Jo Jo's first CD. Parents can rest assure that their little girls can pop it in and sing/dance. I recommend it for girls ages 8 to 18 although I have a feeling others won't go ahead and purchase it but will still be alone in their cars jamming along.
Free Music Review: Impressive for a 15 year old girl Hit: 4 Stars
I'm almost totally oriented to classical music and pre-arthritis played classical (and other) guitar, clarinet, and piano (poorly - I took it up less than a year before the arthritis set in.)
If Miley Cyrus were to be trained in opera for a few years, I think that her range would expand to at least 3 1/2 octaves and the squeakiness in her voice would disappear. It's a shame that, after she had almost completely gotten rid of her Southern accent, Disney, Inc. insisted that "Hannah Montana" needed it and she now has more of a Southern twang than ever before. As well her time spent in Nashville is very bad for her.
Now the plusses. She has a terrific band and together they have a cohesive unit. Her songs are based on her ideas but the lyrics and music are written by her father. She has good ideas but is not a songwriter. She's certainly more professional than anybody her age has a right to be. She almost always hits her notes and her sense of rhythm is excellent. Of all of the CDs that my daughter is occasionally allowed to play on my big system, this is certainly the best. It's not totally my cup of tea - Mozart is. But all things being equal she is heading in the right direction and she's way ahead of schedule. She comes out a big winner when compared to most of her competitors. FOUR STARS!!
Free Music Review: Over the hill (and far away) Hit: 4 Stars
If you're over the hill (i.e. past your tween years) then this probably isn't your kind of music. Like the Jonas Brothers et al, this is bubblegum pop, targeted at a new generation of music fans - after all, each generation needs SOMETHING to raise the hackles of their parents.
Cyrus co-wrote eight of the twelve tracks on the album, and two of the remaining four are covers. Surprisingly, after a few dozen listening experiences from the confines of the car, there are a few tracks that have grown on me, or perhaps I've grown accustomed to her voice.
The safe tracks are "Breakout" (one of the tracks she didn't write); "7 Things"; "Full Circle"; "Simple Song" (another one she didn't write); "Goodbye" and "See You Again". (Actually, the ones I've picked are the ones where she sounds like Avril Lavigne). There's also "Fly on the Wall" which sounds like a G-rated Pussycat Dolls song.
Warning!! If you're a fan of `80s music it's advisable to skip track four, as you don't wanna listen to this version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (Trust me on this one)
Rated:
For tweens 4.5 stars
For old coots 3 stars
Recommended as a gift for that special tween on your list

Free Music Review: Miracle Miley, Indeed Hit: 4 Stars
Miley Cyrus brings it on this album. Whether you are a fan of her or not, her voice is matured beyond its years, and the songwriting (she wrote all the songs except two) is at times excellent. The only criticism is the cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Cyndi Lauper is never to be covered under any cicrumstance unless the passion and instrumentation can trump the vocal performance, because nobody can out-sing Cyndi (and Miley does not even come close). But other than that misstep (which comes just as the album is building momentum) this album is fairly good by anyone's standard, and spectacular when you consider most of it was written by a girl shy of sixteen. The best songs on here compare with some of the better songs Avril Lavigne has done, and is certainly an upgrade from where the Britney's and Hilary's were at this stage of their young careers. Cyrus was born to be a star, and that is all the more apparent because this album is a pop album but she has the ability to make the songs "her own." Perhaps that is because this is not manufactured bubblegum pop. As "7 Things" and "goodbye" prove, it is pop which rocks with REAL instruments and performed with passion and emotion.
Free Music Review: In the car with your kid? Put in Breakout... Hit: 4 Stars
Finally, music for kids that parents can stand to listen to! Miley Cyrus continues to grow as a singer and songwriter on Breakout. The album is full of family friendly power pop. I know Miley will probably get slammed on this album because it's "not grown up" and because she is Hannah Montana. But this album is as good as anything Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, etc...have put out. The lyrics are mostly about boys, which is what 15 yr old girls are thinking about. The album isn't grown up, but it shouldn't be. The songs are catchy and radio friendly. These songs will stand up to anything on top 40 radio. If Miley can get out of the Disney shadow, she will have a successful career. If not, my 4 yr old daughter still loves her; and this is something we can share together.
