Free Music Review: The essential hardcore punk album!.
Hit: 5 Stars

Minor Threat were an amazing groundbreaking hardcore punk group, they first started off in 1980 and managed to influence alot of bands during their short lived career, if you want some fast and energetic punk music with some great and catchy riffs and lyrics then you should definitely own this album. So the album might have some cheap production but it doesn't take away from the raw energy and attitude that this album has and it sounds very aggressive especially for an early 80's album, complete discography compiles all of their songs from their previous album and e.p.s it also has their most famous song In my eyes and the brilliant Out of step I also liked Stumped, Minor Threat and Betray which I had on repeat cause they were such awesome punk songs only problem they were to short like most of the songs on this album that usually clock in under a minute. Look back and laugh has some smart and introspective lyrics and they do sing alot about political concerns, singer Ian Mackaye sounds like hes pissed off with the world or something and has some issues he needs to deal with anyway all the songs were pretty good and they didn't sound repetitive each song had a distinctive sound. You will also notice that the second half sounds abit different from the first half it also shows what direction these guys were heading towards, even though I'm not really a big fan of punk and hardcore music I still ended up liking this album and well what else can I say just get this album right now especially if you like hardcore punk music plus it was very cheap.

Free Music Review: definitive hardcore
Hit: 5 Stars

Minor Threat is the definitive hardcore punk band, at least for 1981-1982. They rank just behind the Dead Kennedys for me, and that's saying a lot, considering how great they are. They got their start from the debris of one of the DC scene's first hardcore bands, the Teen Idles. They, just like Minor Threat, took their influences from the Bad Brains, one of the first hardcore punk bands anywhere, and British punk, like the Sex Pistols, and the Damned. These are also great bands, check em out. But Minor Threat was something special. They weren't only more accomplished players than they had been in Teen Idles, but they also incorporated the idea of straight edge into their songs, which Ian Mckaye always was but dodn't sing about. Look at almost any song here and you'll see straight edge. "In My Eyes", "Minor Threat", "Out of Step", "Bottled Violence", and obviously "Straight Edge". You'll also see many critiques of the DC scene, which wasn't very supportive of their reunion just a few months after their breakup. Especially the last four, in which McKaye has realized that his beloved DC scene is changing (especially Salad Days). These were recorded after they had decided to break up. His voice sounds resigned, except in Stumped, when the question "Why did we go?" rings out. This sharply contrasts to the younger band on the first half of the album, where they seemed so full of hope. If you like punk at all, buy this. Its awsome. Also, check out the book Dance of Days, for more info about the band and also the DC scene as a whole.

Free Music Review: How Rare It Is
Hit: 5 Stars

Its very unusual for a band to be entirely encapsulated by one album. Minor Threat's "Complete Discography" does just that. This band was so different from everything being played around them that they were hated by many punk fans and almost all punk bands. Their straight edge message has now earned them the respect of all their peers. None of the "pseudo-punk" bands that are so popular now (Blink-182, Sum 41) can hold a candle to Minor Threat, yet they are all deeply indebted to them.

The album assaults you from the very beginning. You have to sit down with the lyric book to grasp what Ian MacKaye is saying. But when you do, you are rewarded with some of the most intelligent and poignant messages any punk band ever threw out to their audiences.

The great thing about "Complete Discography" is that you can see the growth of this band. They started out with almost entirely three-chord punk anthems ("Minor Threat" and "12XU") and progressed to more complex songs ("No Reason" and "Look Back and Laugh"). They even invented a catchy phrase at the very end of "Sob Story." (Amazon.com's guidelines don't allow me to reveal it here, but you'll know it when you hear it)

Every time I listen to "Salad Days," the last song on this album and the last song Minor Threat ever recorded together, I get nostalgic. I'll always remember where I was when I first heard this album. I've owned this CD for a long time, and I'll never get sick of it.

A necessity for any punk fan.

Free Music Review: I will inevitably be repeating others...
Hit: 5 Stars

What can I say about this album that has not already been said? If you love music or even simply have a fascination with culture and society, this album is a landmark in its century. Many albums can be remembered for creating a genre, or for catapulting a social movement, or for coining a subculture, or for inspiring so many others, but not many albums can be credited for doing all of these things and more. Minor Threat - Complete Discography is one of those albums. This album changed my life. The lyrics are angry, but not negative and they are positive, but not happy. All of the songs are short, fast, and hit you like a ton of bricks. The lyrics deal with straight-edge ideals, friendships, loyalty, and social issues. If you are new to this kind of music (80's hardcore) and are looking at this album as a sort of stepping-stone into the genre, let me give you some advice. These songs were recorded and produced by a group of poor musicians from between 1981-1985. If you are not used to this, you can be distracted by the poor sound quality. As are most great things, this era of hardcore is a very acquired taste. Listen to the songs, read the lyrics, and research the culture. If you are new to hardcore, don't get caught up in hearing every band that every old-timer says is the best. Listen to this album. This is THE album for 80's DC hardcore, THE album for straight-edge lifestyle, THE album for hardcore inspirations today. If you need to know one thing about hardcore, know Minor Threat.

Free Music Review: Brilliant. Period.

When someone asks me about what they think the best rock album ever is i can say a few records that come to mind, but it would be hard to pick out one album above all the rest, what with so many different styles and composure. The same goes for almost any type of music - rap, punk, ska... whatever.
But when someone asks me to pick the best hardcore album ever it's simple. Because this is the truth - Minor Threat's "Complete Discography" is the best harcore album ever.
There's no second thoughts in my mind. I don't even think of another album... no need to contimplate. There are tons of great hardcore records, but this album is something else... something amazing. It's 26 songs about growing up and mostly the straight edge movement (eg. No drugs or alcohol). From the start to the end, there is not a single track that will dissapoint. Packing so much meaning and thought into a 1 and a half minute song could never be pulled off by another band. I used to drink alcohol about 2-3 times a week and now i hardly touch a beer, if ever. I know it sounds like i'm preaching but it's simply the truth. They have been covered by the likes of the Beastie Boys, AFI, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Suicide Machines, NOFX, Sublime, Sick of it All, and Rage Against the Machine. So you know how influential they were and still are. You have to check out this album... even if you don't by it, it would be a shame to just forget about it.
