Free Music Review: I can only imagine what they were capable of live
Hit: 5 Stars

Ian MacKaye stood at the helm of this now legendary flamethrowing hardcore punk band who uncaged themselves from the doldrums of suburbia to drive beautiful Nagasaki-like havoc through the ears and sensibilities of those lucky enough to have crossed their path.

MacKaye is often mentioned, sometimes as just an adherent, sometimes as the actual founder, of the "straight-edger" movement, which advocates abstience from narcotics and clothing made of fur (but not abstinence from violence, as the residents of Salt Lake City can tell you, where many straight-shooters have been jailed for getting rough with those who don't share their lifestyle).

MacKaye makes no bones about his dislike for alcohol, and sees beer bottles not as things to drink from, but as things to hit people with ("Bottled Violence"). And don't you dare ask MacKaye for reparations ("Guilty of Being White").

Of course, MacKaye went off to form Fugazi, who continue the message heard here, albeit with some slight alterations, but they will never (and show no signs of) coming anywhere near the combination of guitar, drums, bass and violent self-reflection exuded in young-MacKaye's vocals that Minor Threat possessed in their heyday.

Free Music Review: Punk has turned a corner, you better catch up!

Hey kids, no, you can't re-live the old days and experience the scenes of yesterday but you can get a glimps of where hardcore started to show it's
loud self. I say...get this cd...from your local record store that is....support
your local record store..a very "punk thing to do. Now that you are heading down
to the record store, help an old lady cross the street! OK, you are buying this Minor Threat CD, ask to take a look at the Dischord catalog...ask a few questions...check out Scream, SOA, Beefeater,...etc...

Getting back to the cd...it's a good one to add to the collection...a good one to have around if you host a punk radio show..a good clean recording from MT....a nice variety of MT tunes.
This is a history lesson for you, just one scenes version of punk rock out of many. You can still find Minor Threat on vinyl if you search hard enough, if vinyl is your thing.
And Yes, Ian and the boys could and still write fine music. It seem that most people
who have a problem with any musician never took the time to meet and sit and talk with them. try it sometime youngins'....punk musicians usually are more than willing to sit and talk.
Enjoy!

Free Music Review: just get this and tell me that you see the world the same.

as i said above."filler" is my all time favorite song.the pure intensity is unmatched anywhere else by any band on any song.the vocals are so powerfull, angry and raw.its overwhelming at times.compare "filler" with the junk that 99.9% of the bands around today put out and its really [sad].angry just beacuse you are angry isent enough and doesent hold up.being angry for a good reason is what counts.thats what these bands (most of em anyway) lack.id get this album for that song alone, but you wont have to."i dont wanna hear it", "seeing red" follow with the speed of a warp powered ship, while "in my eyes", "cashing in", "out of step" and "salad days" show more of the bands depth and ability.all of the songs are great really.even the first version of "out of step" is good, and adds a wickedly raw solo to the mix.along with black flag's "damaged" and rollins band's "life time",this is the most intense, pulverizing,straight-from-the-gut-to-the-gut collection of songs ive heard.i suggest this to anyone who listens to music for something more than just a good time, or at a party.

Free Music Review: OWN THIS CD IF YOU ARE INTO PUNK! PUNK THAT COUNTS
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the definitive collection of any PUNK Music. Early 80's at the best. If there were only 5 bands to choose from from these days(the original days) it would be Minor Threat, The Dead Kennedy's, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, and the Subhumans. The Ramones were awesome as well as the Clash
(but neither were really true Punk music).
Anyone saying this is ripoff music or anything else negative about this is a true loser who knows nothing about music.
This is the best Punk CD ever! EVER! Nothing touches this! Nothing! Ian McKaye is a true straight edge god. The best Punk to come from America(with the DK's following in second). If you only own one Punk CD this is it. truly amazing music that transcends any time or age barrier. Hard, exciting, brutal, real, confident, pure, traditional, angry, true, the best!

Screw anyone who says this new garbage is good music(blink 182, Good Charlotte, Offspring, or whatever other crap that exists today). This is it. the best. Own it or suffer the consequences of being a total loser!

I love this CD and I loved it when i first owned it on cassette in 1986. All posers must die!!(...)

Free Music Review: 1989 In my College Years...One of the Best Bands
Hit: 5 Stars

Minor Threat...yup 1989 when I first heard them. I remember seeing the song Salad Days making it on the top 100 list on NME, back when NME was still a reputable alternative music magazine. Now..well NME is your usual commercialized magazine promoting sub-standard bands.

This is a classic and kids getting into the truth behind the social relevance and awareness of punk music should start off with Minor Threat. This is pure social punk. Not some lame punk band these days that sing about a girl he met in Math class. What a waste of time!

Classic songs to look out for in this album "Stepping Stone", "Salad Days", "Good Guys", and "Filler". Oh yes...this is the real thing. If you are an old-timer like myself then this is a good collection piece. If you are a kid discovering why we have alternative music today, Minor Threat is a good way to learn history on why your mom and dad walked around with mohawks, chains, and leather jackets. It wasn't about fashion and being cool back then...it was all about ATTITUDE and the social environment America was sinking in during those days.
