Free Music Notes for Complete DiscographyFree Music Review: Energetic hardcore experience Hit: 5 Stars
Combining pure youth energy ( the guys we're as old as I am athe moment, 19, or so, when they started out) and clear and unapologetic oppinions and attitude with fresh and innovative hardcore, to me they are much more enjoyable to listen to, than the thick rumble of , say Black Flag, for example. "Straight Edge" , "Out Of Step" and "Filler" are driven by full energy and aggression and acknowlidging lyrics, while "In My Eyes" and the almost anthemic "Minor Threat" show that the goup was also capable of producing more alternating songs and had a sense of melody instead of being chained with full-on bursts of aggression. Their attitude and personal lifestyle formed a faithful following, "Straight Edge" being an anthem for clean lifestyle. This album is the only Minor Threat album you need, because this is ALL they did. Somehow you can't do with less than this, if you want to get to know them.
Free Music Review: a piece of art Hit: 5 Stars
i decided to write this review in response to the unfair review given by the angry parent. The album was called "vulgar and disgusting," which is outrageous, because Minor Threat is one of the more positive bands (Dayglo Abortions anyone? XD) i have heard. I know of a handful of bands that are straightedge (anti-flag, etc) anymore, she should be glad there are bands her son is interested in that don't use drugs. The repeated use of the "f word," is at the discretion of the artists, and buying an album because it has a "clever title," is ridiculous (especially seeing as the title is 'Complete Discography'). Parents, read the lyrics before you buy it. Punks, BUY This album is AMAZING, POSITIVE, FAST, FUN!and FUN! My favorite track is "In My Eyes," not sure why...it just rocks. \m/ rock on, keep music free.
Free Music Review: afi fans buy this... Hit: 5 Stars
IF YOUR FAVOURITE BAND ARE AFI AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ADORE DAVEY HAVOK then you must buy this album. Minor Threat is the band that effected Davey Havok's and changed Davey Havok's life the most...it is true. he said. i read an interview with him on the internet...it's TRUE. this band practically helped the straight edge movement become even more famous, and this band prove that you don't have to be all drugs, alcohol and sexed out to be punk rock. that is so f**king stupid and cliché to think that. Davey Havok also recommended this album. so people buy this... also..may i say...that AFI's early stuff (not ont he albums tho, the rare stuff) sounds quite similar ("track 13"), to Minor Threat. believe me people..please..if any davey havok adoring people are out there reading this review...you will regret it if you don't buy it...hey...i've PRACTICALLY got it, mate!
Free Music Review: Straight Edges UNITE! Hit: 5 Stars
A collection of their five recordings from 1980-1983, this anthology chronicals the complete history of Washington DC's Minor Threat. Released in 1989, six years after their disbandment, the album gives a look into the band, who are most famous for starting the sXe (straight edge) movement of punks who refuse to drink, do drugs, or have casual sex. They're also famous because of frontman Ian MacKaye, who would eventually go on to form the emu band Fugazi. From the first song "Filler", which is one of the hardest songs on the record, to the final song "Salad Days", it runs through songs of short (Straight Edge clocks in at only 45 seconds)to longer ones (Look Back and Laugh hits at almost 4 minutes) and also with covers of Wire's "12XU" and The Monkees' "Stepping Stone". All in all, this album is a classic showcase of the 1980s punk/hardcore scene. A must for any punk fan.
