Free Music Notes for Double Nickels on the DimeFree Music Review: "twinkle, twinkle...blah, blah" Hit: 5 Stars
at a time where practically every single punk rock band of the moment were concentrating on who could go louder, play faster, and who could be the most (ahem)...punk rock. along came The Minutemen; a band of goofy guys who made the most perfect working class music that any intelligent, self-respecting "punk rocker" could possibly hope to call their own. oy vey. no matter which way yoiu slice it, or how you describe it, the music of The Minutemen remains as profound and sparked with brilliance as when it was first recorded and released upon the unsuspecting masses. elements of jazz, funk, folk, and yes, punk rock...all seemlessly meld into one unclassifiable mass. the sum equals it's parts, and it's beautiful, man.
Free Music Review: An ideal record Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album on vinyl in November of 1985, about a month before D. Boon, the guitarist and lead singer, died in a car wreck. Since then it has becaome the soundtrack to my adult life. Far and away, it is the most complete album ever made, woith more quality songs and music than any other recording in history. It's funny to be so crazy for and committed to an album, but Double Nickles comes from a pure place of inspiration. It's a punk rock textbook with of great musicianship and songwriting. If you could imagine an album created by punk poets, this would be it. If you stumble across this record you should without a doubt buy it and listen right away. It might change your life too.
Free Music Review: This is the greatest album of ALL time Hit: 5 Stars
Words could really not express the love I have for this CD. This album is the greatest creation. The first time I heard it I was struck with utter awe. I have never heard a 3 piece band sound so unified. Every instrument is so equally balanced. Nobody on this planet played like D. Nobody plays like Watt. Nobody plays like George. These guys took influence from so many contemporaries and created the most original sound. This album is everything. I would pick this album over any album in the world. Buy this. It will change your life. Thanks Mike, D and George! I owe you big. Oh, if you can get your hands on the cassette of this one, get it. You'll like it when you get it.
Free Music Review: By B E Holloway Hit: 5 Stars
This is the album that introduced me to the Minutemen. I heard it playing in a record store years ago and bought it immediately. It is packed with great music and a great intro to thier music. D Boon is a major music hero to me and he, Mike, and George, created something that sounds completely fresh and original whenever I listen to them. The Minutemen are vital in music history and will always remain so. I can honestly say, I have never heard another group like them, before or after. Buy this album, and also check out "Post-Mersh, Volumes 1,2,& 3", "Ballot result(live)", and "Three way tie for last". Important music.
Free Music Review: An incredible inspiration Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard this CD, I thought my music career was all over: they created the sound I had in my head for years but couldn't quite nail down. To tell the truth, I don't find the lyrics all that remarkable, although I completely respect those who do. For me, the amazing part is the tightness of the drums and bass, this is one of the most amazing rock rhythm sections ever recorded. Listen to these two lock into each other, play off each other, and provide a foundataion for the guitar and vocals, and you'll understand what it's all about. That they were largely self trained makes it even more amazing.I can't recommend this CD strongly enough.
