Free Music Notes for Crazy Ex-GirlfriendFree Music Review: Small Town Girl Stakes her Claim to Country Stardom Hit: 5 Stars
Miranda Lambert throws down the gauntlet on this CD. She begins angry and defiant on "Gunpowder and Lead" and the title track, and although she remains forceful and gutsy throughout, this record is a journey, not just an angry rant. Although there's an impassioned edge to this CD, it's grounded in traditional country- and well produced. Miranda is a special talent, gutsy, real, and somehow introspective too, so she should be able to separate herself from the rest of the country female pack. Don't compare Miranda to Carrie Underwood because of TV origins; Carrie sounds manufactured next to Miranda.
Some reviewers don't want Miranda to progress- only to remake KEROSENE. I think that would have been a mistake. She's spreading her wings, being her own person. I compare her to Dolly and Reba- telling it like it is. Obvious with the inclusion of "Easy From Now On" is a comparison to Emmylou Harris; I feel Miranda picks up her torch. That also points out her remarkable song selection. I will echo Amazon reviewer McLeese, Miranda's songwriting is a strength as well as her choices of others' songs. She seems like the combination of all the right elements to be both artistically genuine and commercially successful. I cannot honestly agree with one person's assessment that she is "the best country female solo artist in our nation's history," but this does feel like the beginning of something great.
Free Music Review: .......what littl' girls are made of......... Hit: 5 Stars
Lambert's follow-up to her debut 'Kerosene' doesn't disappoint. You get the traditional country sound and humour of 'Dry Town' along with the traditional angry, jealous woman on the edgier, more modern-sounding title track. This heavier 'foot to the floor' treatment is also given to 'Gunpowder And Lead' on which we completely root for the woman striking back against an abusive partner as well as on the menacing 'Down' in which a woman crushed by 'a strong man.... in Jackson Hole' takes emotional revenge on 'a little boy in Baton Rouge' and sounds a warning to other men to 'stay away from me'. The break-up heartache of 'Love Letters' preceeds 'Desperation', on which Lambert re-visits themes, such as, continuing to long for another despite knowing the relationship is not the right one. The poignant 'More Like Her' tells of the lover of an attractive but damaged woman being drawn back to the simple beauty of his original partner. Being aware of engaging in deceit but not being completely uncomfortable with the resultant guilt is the theme of 'Guilty In Here' while 'Getting Ready' is advance warning to a guy about to be ditched. 'Famous In A Small Town' equals no secrets in a small town. The album closes with the much-covered but still wonderful 1976 Carlene Carter co-penned song 'Easy From Now On'. So, no tricky second album here - Miranda's still firmly on track. This littl' girl's pure quality.

Free Music Review: A Story to Tell Hit: 5 Stars
I seriously love this girl's music. She's exactly what country radio needs to not only continuously appeal to their current audience, but to break the stereotypes and appeal to new audiences in order to push evolvement.
My favourite track on the CD is "Famous in a Small town" which I first heard on television when GAC was playing the video over and over again. It seriously mimics what small towns are like, and although a bit more on the pop side, Miranda's southern twang, surely gives it that great country feel.
The opening track for the album, "Gunpowder and Led," is crazy. The latest LeAnn Rimes track, "Nothing better to Do," reminds me of THIS song, in terms of the beats, the guitar chords and the style. The line, "I'm gonna show him what little girls are made of, gun powder and led," is crazy. I almost think that Miranda's lyrics mirror that of a serious female desperado who is slightly insane, in a sexy scary way. And that is completely what this song reminds me of. I mean, which girl do you know, tells you "my gun is bigger."
All around, really rockin' album. I wish country RADIO would play her more. She's way better than some of the outdated garbage they overplay.
So go out and buy Miranda's music!!!
Free Music Review: Gunpowder Lead and TALENT Hit: 5 Stars
Listen to the first two tracks on this cd to hear how diverse Miranda can be.
Gunpowder and Lead is leather and electric and the very next track Dry Town is blue jeans and root beer. I love it.
There aren't any throwaways on this cd.
Desperation, a Miranda composition is a fine story song.
Same with Famous In A Small Town, a Miranda/Travis Howard song.
The whole cd has a great cohesive feel to it. Though the songs are all
very different in beat and intensity. Great lyrics throughout.
For the life of me I cannot understand why Miranda is not
everywhere on country radio and why she isn't winning the awards.
She writes her own stuff, she is a musician, she has a very unique vocal style in today's country, and she is naturally gorgeous.
Don't depend on the limited view of country radio play, get this cd for yourself.
You will be doing yourself a great favor.
