Free Music Review: moneen...such an underrated band!

this is the sophmore album from the canadian-based band, moneen. this album is very similiar to their debut "theory of harmonial value". if you liked that cd you will love this cd and then some... there's no doubt moneen is talented with their clever lyrics, rawness, emotion, and drawn-out, story-like, epic songs. even though both albums are similiar i like this one alot more. it seems to have something that their debut didn't. i really can't pinpoint it, you'll have to listen for yourself. i hate seeing moneen get dumped in the emo scene and get compared to awful bands that don't even have half the talent these guys do. i really can't explain this album...it's one of those albums you listen to that takes you out of your body and takes you to a higher level and makes you think about and feel different emotions. similiar to brand new's "deja entendu", armor for sleep's "dream to make believe", and perhaps senses fail's "from the depths of dreams". i can't believe how underrated these guys are! i guess the dark lyrics and length of the songs could be minor reasons. if you like any of the three other albums i listed above you MUST have this album. if anything, years from now when emo is over i would like to think moneen will get some recognition or perhaps this spring when their new album "the red tree" comes out. this is a standout band who rise above your typical emo band who are really saying something in their music and deliver one of the best (underrated) albums of 2003. the title track is my second fave but the best moneen song is #6 "i have never done anything that wasn't for myself as well". it's a piano ballad that has hidden meanings and very dark imagery that gave me chills. as you can see from this novel, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM.
