Free Music Notes for Still Standing

Free Music Review: I haven't reviewed anything on Amazon in almost two years. It's about time!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love Monica. I always have. She has a very unique distinguished voice, she is beautiful and just an all around real woman. I've been a fan since her first album Miss Thang 15 years ago (when I was only 7 years old :-) She's had her hits and misses when it has come to music; such as her 2002 album "All Eyez On Me", and her 2006 Album "The Makings Of Me." Neither one of them impressed me very much, especially her last album. I didn't like the direction that Monica was taking. It seemed way too commercial, and something that she was forced into. I was hoping that she would go back to what she had with "Miss Thang" and "The Boy Is Mine", but kept the swagger that she had on "After The Storm." With "Still Standing" we have exactly that! The album is personal, beautiful, and something that you can listen to all the way through!

The album starts with "Still Standing" which I heard sometime last year. I loved the song from the moment I heard it. The lyrics in the song are very personal. This woman has been through so much in her life, and she wants to let everyone know that she is here and not going anywhere. The verse Ludacris has actually doesn't add very much to the song, however I'm a HUGE Ludacris fan so I don't mind it.

The next song is "One In A Lifetime" which is one of my favorite tracks on the album. Even though the overall meaning of the song is pretty simple, the song itself is perfect! The song is about only having one true love in a lifetime. Monica's voice sounds amazing, the mid-tempo beat goes well with the song, and the song could definitely a success. This song is definitely single material!

"Stay or Go" is the third track on the album. Alot of fans and critics have somewhat bashed this song, for being un-inspired and flat. When I first listened to it I felt the same way. After a few listens it grew on me. However, it's definitely not one of the highlights of the album. I no longer think it's a filler track, but I do feel that the placement of the song on the album is not correct.

Her lead single off the album "Everything to Me" was a PHENOMENAL First single choice. I was so excited when I heard this song, for the simple fact that it wasn't that commercial corporate crap that we hear alot nowadays. It was just Monica singing very genuinely and purely. Also, when I read the album credits to see who wrote the song I was astounded to see that Jazmine Sullivan wrote it! She is an amazing artist as well, and writes very good material. This song is definitely one of the standout tracks on the album.

After the comforting sounds of "Everything to Me" we move to the next track "If You Were My Man". This song is definitely her "After The Storm" swagger that I was talking about earlier. I really like the production that Missy put on the track, and the chorus is really catchy. It's good to have an up-tempo track on this otherwise ballad and mid-tempo filled album. While the song itself is, once again, a very simple concept it's a fun song to listen to.

"Mirror" is the next track, and I absolutely Love it! After "Everything to Me" and "One In A Lifetime" this is definitely one of the best songs on the album. This song actually somewhat reminds me of her "The Boy is Mine" days. I love it alot!

The next track is "Here I Am". I have listened to this album maybe 25 times since I've bought it, and every time I can't seem to get into this song. I don't skip it only because I really really want to like it. But it's hard to force yourself to enjoy something which you really don't I guess. I also hear that this is the next single off of the album and I am extremely upset to hear that. This song has nothing going for it. Absolutely nothing. I am still partial to this track, and I'm still trying to find the appeal. Maybe I will change at a later date.

"Superman" is the next track, and once again is a very simple track. However, it works very well! I love Monica's vocals on this song. It's a song with great production and a very good melody. I enjoy listening to this song alot!

Probably the most unique and different song on the album (in my opinion) is the next track "All Of Over Me" The lyrics are BEAUTIFUL! Her Voice is BEAUTIFUL! The production is amazing, and everything about the song just screams success! This is definitely one of the highlights of the album!

The last and final track "Believing in Me" is one of the best, if not the best song on the album. I really had a tough time choosing between this song, "Everything To Me" and "One in a Lifetime." I chose this one because this song explains that Monica is finally believing in herself to move away from a relationship. This track has one of the best vocal performances that I've heard Monica do in a very long time. The climax of the song is incredible. Her voice really shines! I constantly have this song on repeat. I absolutely love it, and this song should definitely be a single and not be kept under wraps. I think everyone needs to hear it!

Overall, this was an OUTSTANDING album. I am so happy that I purchased this album. This album is almost flawless. It really is. it's definitely one of her best albums hands down!
