Free Music Notes for Monkees (Dlx)Free Music Review: Lots of Bonus Tracks Hit: 5 Stars
This is the Monkee's first album, re-issued in two discs-one is a stereo mix, the other mono. I prefer the stereo mix. The mono seems kind of redundant and won't be very interesting to casual fans. But you can hear differences obviously. The album is pretty fun. The Monkees theme, Take a Giant Step, Last Train to Clarksville, and Let's Dance On are some of my favorite Monkees songs. The album recalls a lot of the tv series moments.
But what really is the reason to buy this deluxe issue are the bonus tracks. They are really interesting to hear. I Don't Think You Know Me At All by Micky, The Kind of Girl I Could Love, I Can't Get Her Off My Mind, Kellogg's jingle, and All The King's Horses are my favorites.
Free Music Review: The Missing Surprise Inside Hit: 5 Stars
Ok well enough said about the Monkees 2006 remasters we know thats the best release Rhino has given us and I think we don't have to buy it again in the future but' What about the surprise you get when you open the two cd gatefold and find what ? The Original Colgems LP label done in the Rhino way on top w the TM Of The Warner Music Group now how cool is that .I will only buy the first two Monkees Remasters albums even if the original four did not play any instruments at all that explains why the follow up albums did not capture the magic that the first two abume had on me for the rest of the hits a greatest hits will do for later Monkees
Free Music Review: Amazing reissue - terrrific sound and packaging!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is simply the last word on these recordings. Terrific sound, great bonus tracks and wonderful packaging! Well worth the time and money to pick up. The bonus tracks are espeically nice. All four Monkees on backgound vocals for "Papa Gene's Blues" and "The Kind of Girl I Could Love" are worth the price alone.
If you're a fan of the Monkees or great pop music do yourself a favor and pick up this - and "More of the Monkees" - deluxe edition. You won't be disappointed. Easily one of the best reissues of older material I've seen. A major thank you to Rhino and Andrew Sandoval for putting this together!
Free Music Review: This Is Where It All Began ... Hit: 5 Stars
Plenty of people dismissed The Monkees as nothing more than Pre-Fab Four fakes, but this, their first album, is much better than could ever have been expected. Sure, it's pre-teen geared pop, but what pop! "Last Train to Clarksville," "Take a Giant Step," "Saturday's Child" have stood the test of time. And then there are Mike Nesmith's compositions, "Papa Gene's Blues" and "Sweet Young Thing," which probably didn't create country rock, but certainly brought the infant genre to the masses. And this reissue has plenty of bonus tracks to further your listening experience. The perfect 1960s pop package.
Free Music Review: My first crush Hit: 5 Stars
I have so many memories of the Monkees. I loved the television show and had this album plus More of the Monkees and the 3rd one too. They are not as great now as they were when I was 8-9 yrs. old but then what is?
