Free Music Review: ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVOURITES!

Nesmith's material is awesome as usual on this album even though I think his songs were more sophisticated on INSTANT REPLAY these songs are far more fun. 2 fun songs grace this album GOOD CLEAN FUN and NEVER TELL A WOMEN YES. One good flavoured rocker OKLAHOMA BACKROOM DANCER and finally Nesmith's crown jewel LISTEN TO THE BAND(which should have been a #1 hit) one of the greatest Monkee songs ever.

Micky's material is by far some of his greatest. His self composed MOMMY AND DADDY is one cool song. He also was the writer and performer behind the beautiful LITTLE GIRL and the folk-like BYE BYE BABY BYE BYE. Finally PILLOW TIME is his charming album closer.

David's material is also very promising here. His self composed IF I KNEW is a very meaningful song and his performance on the FRENCH SONG is awesome. He also sings two Boyce and Hart tunes. One being LOOKING FOR THE GOODTIMES an awesome rocker and the other being the ridiculous novelty tune LADIES AID SOCIETY.

The bonus tracks are pretty good too. First is an early version of Nesmith's CALICO GIRLFRIEND this one being a samba. The song is good but pales in comparison to the version that appeared on Mike's first solo album. Next is THE GOOD EARTH although the poem delivers a good message it makes you wonder why the Monkees recorded it. Next are to awesome early versions of LISTEN TO THE BAND and the uncensored version of MOMMY AND DADDY. Finally the album closes with the MONKEES PRESENT RADIO PROMO which is a pointless but interesting addition to this reissue.

This album was originallly supposed to be a double album but unfortunetly it was wittled down to one excellent LP. Although this album was not very big back in 1969 it is a favourite among Monkee fans it ranks second to PISCES(my favourite Monkee album) for me. In my opinion this album should have be #1 not #100. Don't let the lack of Tork or overall album success fool you, this is one excellent album that is just too underrated. Monkee fans should get it if they can. Highly recommended!
