Free Music Notes for Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. (Deluxe Edition, 2CD)Free Music Review: Great re-issue, Great album. Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably my favorite out of the four re-issues. This album was probably the first Monkee album that you could play all the way through and apart from "Headquarters" it also has a consistency that was missing from the debut and "More Of the Monkees". Being that this was the first Monkee album to be cut on an 8-track machine the re-mastering job is top notch and the sound is much fuller than the previous releases. It was also nice of Rhino for including both the stereo and mono versions of the album. The extras contain tracks from the box set and the "Missing Links" collections as well as previous un-issued recordings. Just a reminder that the re-issues come in a didgipak case just the like the Bee Gees re-issues.
Free Music Review: Easily their best Hit: 5 Stars
Havent heard this 'Deluxe Edition' but this is their best effort. Only one duff track (Hard To Believe). Headquarters is usually - and wrongly - marked as their crowning achievement, but I think fans get swayed by The Monkees own skewed vision of the whole experience. 'Headquarters' was the album they had complete creative control and that's the reason the boys themselves, and their fiercly loyal fans, defend and give it such an honour. Dont get me wrong Headquarters is good - PAC&J though, leaves it in the dust. Any doubt should be eradicated by the fact that 'Daydream Believer' was recorded at these sessions and left off to sell the next (vastly inferior) album. It simply wasnt needed. The songs were THAT good here.
Free Music Review: The Monkees Can Play With The Best Hit: 5 Stars
THIS CD SHOWS, THAT THE MONKEES CAN PLAY WITH THE BEST STUDIO PLAYER. THIS CD IS ONE OF THE BEST. A LOT OF CREDIT GOSE TO CHIP DOUGLAS,WHO CAN TAKE A T.V. MAKE BELIEVE BAND INTO A REAL BAND. MIKE AND PETER KNEW HOW TO PLAY. BUT MICKEY,THINK ABOUT,HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN JUST SIT DOWN AND LEARN HOW TO PLAY DRUMS IN A FEW YEARS AND SOUND THAT GOOD. AND DAVY WHO CAN SING WELL,AND PICK UP ANY PERCUSSION AND PLAY VERY WELL. THIS CD SOUND GREAT IN STEREO AND IN MONO. A LOT OF GROUP INFO,THE COVER LOOKS GREAT TOO. THIS IS A CD THAT YOU CAN'T PASS UP. MONKEES FAN OR NOT,YOU WON'T BE SORRY. AND THE PRICE IS JUST RIGHT. JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY.
Free Music Review: My Neighbor Got This LP For My Bday! Hit: 5 Stars
Again: I'm reviewing the LP! Not the recent Rhino release. Mike's 1st with Salesman. Davy & She Hangs Out. Mike again with the Door Into Summer.Mike(w/Mickey & his Moog Sythesizer with Love Is Only Sleeping. Next: Davy's Vaudeville bit called Cuddly Toy. The 45 Words ends side 1.
S.2 is a dull Davy tune called Hard to Believe.Mike's country twanging is featured in Hangin' Round. Peter does a brief goofy spoken Pig thing. Then an extended version of Mickey's Pleasant Valley Sunday. Mick again (with the Moog, Man!) in Daily Nightly. Then Mick "MC's" Mike in Don't Call On Me. Ending with Star Collector! "Bye Bye! Bye Bye"....
Free Music Review: The Monkees at their Best Hit: 5 Stars
This album orginally released in November 1967 is definitely one of the Monkees best albums. Mike Nesmith starts the album off with "Salesman" and his voice is best suited for this song. There is not one song on this album that I don't enjoy (well, maybe not so much the verbally spoken "Peter Percival Patterson's Pet Pig Porky") and the inclusion of the mono and stereo versions on the deluxe CD lets you listen to the songs in different ways. Most of the songs on this album were featured on their television series. I would recommend the standard or deluxe version of this CD.
