Free Music Notes for Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. (Deluxe Edition, 2CD)Free Music Review: the monkees pisces aquarius & jones Ltd Hit: 4 Stars
The monkees at their best. This was my favorite Monkee Album. The set includes both the Stereo and Mono versions of the Album with extras. I really enjoy listening to this Cd.
Free Music Review: Unprofessional production of a great CD.... Hit: 3 Stars
I am a Monkees Fan from childhood. This CD and Headquarters are by far their best ever, because they played the instruments and had control over the creativity. BUT, the people that produced and mixed the Deluxe Edition of this and Headquarters missed the mark. It sounds a bit rushed and compressed. If they cared about the Monkees, the sound or putting out a decent product they ruined it by making them sound compressed and rushed. I am sure there are others out there that agree and others, myself included, who could have and would have done better, because I am a fan first and foremost wouldn't matter. Not as much as the integrity, which I can't find in the rush job here and on Headquarters. I am disappointed that it is only a halfway decent job at best, NOT a great job.
Free Music Review: Rush Job? Hit: 2 Stars
First of all, I love this album. I consider it to be the best Monkees album, and a good example of what the band, with producer Chip Douglas and select session musicians could have been capable of producing for the rest of the decade.
Having said that - this two-disc "deluxe edition" doesn't offer much added value over Rhino's one-disc edition. It contains mono versions of the tracks, so if you need those - great. If not, the alternate takes aren't much more interesting than what exists on the first edition.
Now here's the bad part. Rhino was very sloppy in assembling the bonus tracks. In a few cases, bits of one track flow over onto another track number. This could easily have been rectified, so I'll just chalk it up to a rush job on Rhino's part.
Free Music Review: Ripped off by Rhino again. Hit: 1 Stars
Rhino will never learn. As good sounding as these "deluxe" edition are, one read of the Monkees "Day By Day" book written by one of the Rhino guys will tell you of the bonus tracks that could & should have been added to these editions that would have been a heck of a lot more interesting & appropriate than the rehash & remixes & "alternate" versions included here on these overpriced sets. Then to release a "bonus" vinyl single of a song,"... Had It in You Sally", that should have been included on the CD is just downright dumb. It's great that a label like Rhino cares enough to release editions like these but this first generation Monkees fan who owns everything else will not own these. 5 stars or the music, 1 star for the "product".
Free Music Review: Absolutely horrible remastering. Hit: 1 Stars
These discs sound nothing like the Monkees did. The sound is hard, compressed, shrill, bass-less, and downright unpleasant to listen to. It sounds like the worst-engineered FM station in town. The previous CD version, while no prize-winner, is far superior to this mess.
I feel like I totally wasted my money on this set. I can't bear to listen to it. It makes me long for my old LPs.
