Free Music Notes for Monty Python's Spamalot (2005 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: The review that goes like this...
Hit: 5 Stars

Haven't had the opportunity to see the live show yet, so I jumped at the chance to pick up this soundtrack - and if you are a fan of silly Python bits, then you should also do so.

Not only is this soundtrack funny, but it excellently showcases the work and musical talent that have been woven into the show. The musical numbers are well-executed and completely worthy of Broadway, yet never stray very far from the nonsense we have grown to love from Python past. Marching music and cheerleader calls are quite at home alongside a 70's disco tune and a diva's operatic faux lament.

Of course, this show's album is strewn with snippets of familiar, humorous bits from Quest for the Holy Grail, and even if the bits have been altered to suit the new show, they mesh well with the music and are as funny as ever, demonstrating that Pythonesque silliness is, of course, not yet dead...

Hit: 5 Stars

As I had recently gone to NY with my Girl Friends and saw Spamalot in all its glory...
I knew I had to have a CD of those happy, sing along songs of my own.
As I put the CD into my laptop- magic ensued...I was back in the theater, with my pals,( and the nice man from Minnesota who sat next to me).
Yes-this recording was wonderful and I have memorized almost all the lyrics, so I can belt them out with the actors-(much to the shock and horror of my husband and five dogs), they tend to run in panic whenever I take a deep breath now.
I've installed the album into my ipod so no one in this part of Virginia is safe- I do tend to hum or actually sing the best parts where ever I happen to be.
If you've seen Spamalot you must have this rendition-
who knows-we may meet up at a local grocery and BOTH be singing
"The song that goes like this....."

Free Music Review: The Big Anvil Falls on Broadway
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first heard that Eric Idle was writing a new musical based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I thought it would be a natural to be turned into one. After hearing the score, I sincerely hope either I can get to New York to see the actual musical or maybe a touring production will come. The feel of the music seems to take several pokes at other Broadway productions and how can you resist a song like "The Song That Goes Like This", which gives a generic treatment to the Broadway ballad. Also a treat is the Diva's Lament, which is a fun song dealing with lack of stage time.
Of course you can't have a play based on the movie without "The Knights of the Roundtable." I'm was actually surprised that to hear how well Tim Curry sounds in the role of King Arthur.
The play has been nominated for a lot of Tony's and I hope it does well.

Free Music Review: The cd is not actually in my hot little hands-yet.
Hit: 5 Stars

But no matter. I did see Spamalot in Chicago at the Shubert just before it hit Broadway. It was as I could see very polished & ready to go. Absolutely the best, funniest musical I have ever seen. Big, funny stars, Hank Azaria, David Hyde Pierce & Tim Curry & a really crazed supporting cast. Lots of inside jokes & sly references to their impending premeire on Broadway as they slide into "You Can't get to Broadway" (unless you have a Jew). Well done. There was a moment of stunned silence across the audience, then everybody broke up including the actors on stage. The Search for the Holy Grail was kind of left in the dust. But it still had that Monty Python feel with Eric Idle's adaptation. Ludicrous & savagely funny satire, biting the hand that will feed them for many sold out performances. Hope you get to see it if you're in NYC. Otherwise order the cd like I just did.

Free Music Review: It's Not Dead Yet!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am probably one of the very few people who has not yet seen this show in person. I've listened to some of the songs and watched a few reviews of the show and thought it looked pretty good. I've always been a fan of Monty Python (mainly the Holy Grail) so I basically knew I'd love this CD.

Sara Ramírez's voice simply blew me out of the water ... no pun intended. She sings like no one I have ever heard! She did an amazing job with "Find Your Grail". Tim Curry was of course brilliant as King Arthur. I never knew that David Hyde Pierce could sing to be honest. He did a great job as well. Christopher Sieber has a great voice as well and can sing pretty high!

Overall, this was a great tribute to Monty Python and there are so many spoofs of other musicals and/or what you would typically hear in other musicals.
