Ringleader of the Tormentors -Ringleader of a New Era
Pros: Ringleader of the Tormentors doesn't waste any time introducing a substantially new direction for Morrissey. I find the production to be quite dramatic, which really emphasized the fact Morrissey's vocals have noticeably matured. I was at first shocked on how different his voice sounded after years of being absent (prior to his 2004 comeback `Who Put the M in Manchester'). Upon my 1st listen, it was apparent to me that Morrissey was on the verge of an entirely new era in his solo career. My favorite songs from this album are "I will see you in far off places" (which was a very middle-eastern sounding tune with amazing diversity and intrigue) and "Life is a Pigsty". I think Tony Visconti's production on this album tested Morrissey's skills to the max. These songs were like nothing I could have imagined. "Life is a Pigsty" was a song with sharp vocal imagery and some great dramatic sound effects. I could go on, but let's just say that this is a 12 song CD with at least 11 great songs on it (unlike most artists' albums which contain the one big hit). Ringleader of the Tormentors provides diversity between each track that will keep you hooked for hours at a time.
Cons: The video was a true sleeper. Zzzzz.
Overall: This is a MUST HAVE Album for any fan of Moz's Solo Work!
