Free Music Review: good classic Subotnick

This is a very good example of Morton Subotnick's work. I would call it classic. I first bought an LP of this back in the late 1970's and was completely mesmerized. I only had a cheap record player at the time and didn't hear the subtle ticking sound that is at the beginning of Sidewinder, but finally did when I played it on a friend's nicer turntable a few days later. I haven't heard the original in quite a while so I don't know if this is remixed differently from the first vinyl he did. Having met the artist in about 1979 I understand some of his concepts about the dynamics of electronic music. In particular the his interest in the stereo and quadraphonic effects. On this album you can hear beautifully distinct stereo movement and a vivid dynamic of volume variation. One of the best things about Subotnick's work is that it creates a unique aural atmosphere that, for me at least, is extremely transporting.
