Free Music Notes for Saints of Los Angeles

Free Music Review: "I should be committed for being so twisted, cuz everyone knows I'm just another psycho."
Hit: 5 Stars

Motley Crue have always been masters at changing their sound and style with each album (and years ago their image and logo as well). Saints Of Los Angeles is no exception. Musically, I think of this album as a cross between pop metal, punk, and grunge. I also think it sounds like Too Fast For Love, Shout At The Devil, Girls, Girls, Girls, Dr. Feelgood, the John Corabi self-titled album, and Generation Swine blended together. It's a strong album, one of their very best. They get points for changing their sound yet again. This band is a lot like Rush - they keep evolving and changing musically.

This album's theme is their decadent lifestyle over the last 30 years and is loosely based on their autobiography, The Dirt. Top tracks for me are Face Down In The Dirt, Down At The Whisky, Saints Of Los Angeles, MF Of The Year, The Animal In Me, Just Another Psycho, This Ain't A Love Song, White Trash Circus, and Goin' Out Swingin'. The music is high energy and upbeat. Mick Mars (such an underrated guitarist) provides some of his best guitar work and riffs on this album. Tommy Lee is exceptional on this album.

Overall, a great album. One of my personal favorites from them. The original lineup of Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil are back. This package also comes with a DVD of a press conference, live performances, and excerpts from The Dirt. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: The Crue Is Back!
Hit: 5 Stars

Having been a dedicated Motley fan for 23 years, here's the real deal: It's been eleven years since the original Motley lineup graced us w/a new album. We got am awesome reunion tour in '05-'06 which showed Motley was most definitely back in top form. The double live cd proved it (as if the live show didn't?) and now Motley gives us "The Saints Of Los Angeles." Overall, an EXCELLENT offering. LAMF gives us a scary yet quite truthful welcome to L.A. (Careful what you wish for to aspiring "new to L.A." fame seekers) "Down At The Whisky" takes us back to Motley circa '81-'82 when they played regular gigs @ the famous L.A. rock club on Sunset, and then partied for days after each gig. (See their AMAZING book "The Dirt" for more detailed explanations on Motley party habits!) This album definitely goes above & beyond '97's "Generation Swine." Nikki's writing has never been better, Tommy's drumming is always stellar, Mick delivers flawless blues inspired guitar chops, and Vince's vocals are top! Some things in rock are worth the wait, and anything from the original lineup of Vince, Nikki, Tommy, and Mick is ALWAYS worth getting.

What are the best tracks? ALL OF IT!! Now stop reading and go get yourself the best hard rock cd of '08!! GO NOW!! And catch Crue Fest when it comes to your town.

Free Music Review: The Crue is Back!
Hit: 5 Stars

All 4 original members are back for their first album of new material. Alot fo people are saying this is their first new material with the original lineup since Dr. Feelgood, but they have recorded together recently - the two new songs on the "Red, White and Crue" greatest hits album, so they've shaken the rust off of not recording together since Generation Swine.
This album starts off just like Shout At The Devil and Dr. Feelgood - with a little intro that starts off the album "L.A.M.F.". That leads into Face Down In The Dirt which is a rocking song. Then it leads into What's it gonna take, Down at the whisky, Saints of L.A., M.F. Of The Year, The Animal In Me, etc.. Regardless, all of the songs on "Saints Of L.A." rock including the finale "Goin Out Swinging". That's one of my favorites on this CD.
If you've read the book "The Dirt" then you'll hear the references thrown into all of the songs. Even if you didn't read the book, this CD will give a preview of what was written in it.
I had to give this CD a few listens to, but I think this album really rocks with the best of their catalog. It's definetly an improvement over their lame cd's "Motley Crue", "Generation Swine" and "New Tattoo". In my opinion, this CD is even better than "Girls, Girls, Girls".

Free Music Review: SOLA is classic Crue
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm 38 years old, I have a wife and 2 kids, and I guess you'd call me old, but I gotta tell ya, some things never change. The patron Saints of LA bring it home with this MFer of the year. Totally true, after listening to the album through twice I went and ordered Crue Fest 2 tickets. This will be my first concert in probably 20 years...I think since Dokken and Judas Priest back in '87. And I'm so excited. Just like I was when I heard that first Crue song when I was 16. SOLA pounds from start to finish with classic sleaze, and fat guitar riffs that make me drive fast and act half my age. This album brings it full circle for me and is so satisfying, you won't be left wondering what happened to these guys. They are alive and well bro.

I highly recommend reading Nikki's Heroin Diaries too. Get inside that dudes head and see the Crue from the inside out. Unbelievable. There's only one reason that guy is still alive....to rock on. The Diaries took me back to specific days in my adolescence where I could remember where I was when Nikki was a few miles away smacked out of his mind after a show. Just something you don't get to do every day. I also recommend The Dirt for those of you who like to read. More drama, but very interesting too.

Free Music Review: The Saints are coming on tough
Hit: 5 Stars

The Crue are back in action...and believe when they say, they are going out swingin'! This cd is remarkable, and intense the whole way through. All the Crue are playing their best here, and it makes for an amazing piece of work. From the creepy, almost gothic, intro "L.A.M.F." to the end of "Goin' Out Swingin", you get 80's Crue with a few extra spices. Vince's vocals sound the best they did in years, and often changes make for a better listen. Both Mars and Sixx are playing great, heavy tunes, while Tommy Lee pastes his energy all over the tracks. Lee's drumming is more remarkable than his older work...thats how good it is. This album marks the first release from these guys with all the original members, in over a decade. The Crue are not fooling around. We get the same violent, disturbing, aggressive lyrics, the the Crue was always noted for...with some catchy singing chorus's that would remind you of Trapt. Think of the Dr. Feelgood album, if it would be recorded today...then you got the sound and quality of this album. Of course, Cruefest is coming up, and every metalhead, or Crue fan should be sure to go. The Crue are back with vengeance in 08! This album is a must! Some of their best work is here.
