Free Music Review: Seminal
Hit: 5 Stars

Shout at the Devil is a critically important album. While its predecessor, Too Fast for Love, was quite good, SATD lunged forward with a fury that left the aforementioned release in a glamorous dust. SATD is heavy--in pacing, in mood, in lyrics, in its mantra. But it's an image of a moment in musical time and location that will never happen again. It never could happen again. Ask anyone who survived it. You can hear the Sunset Strip beginning to unravel even here in 83'--well before Cobain--and in many ways this sad imminent doom is every bit as punk as albums that are officially labeled as such. This album never tried to be punk; it just is, and that is what makes it so, even if it is in a non-standard way.

Free Music Review: A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

As far as impact on the hard rock/metal scene, this album is near the very top. The distortion is absolutely killer, Vince Neil's vocals are top-notch, and the drums are outstanding. This album is razor-sharp metal. Unfortunately after this album, the Crue would go on to make pop-metal on par with Warrant, Poison, and Slaughter. But this album is nothin' but metal.

Highlights include pretty much everything, though the best are "Looks that Kill", "Red Hot","Ten Seconds to Love" and the title song. However, again, don't discount the others. A masterpiece. If you love hard rock/metal and don't own this album shame on you. But if you do, well you probably already own this.

Free Music Review: Classic album - demos on new version are for Crue fans
Hit: 5 Stars

Shout at the Devil is of course a classic Motley Crue album. In addition to all the great songs from the original album, the remastered version has demos of Shout at the Devil and Looks That Kill plus a song called Hotter Than Hell (which is actually a demo for what became Louder Than Hell on Theatre of Pain) and an unreleased song called I Will Survive. The Shout at the Devil demo is pretty interesting since it is Vince's raw vocals and he sings some lyrics differently. (We are not exactly talking Dylan Bootleg Series caliber here.) Hotter Than Hell is pretty cool to hear, but I can see why the left I Will Survive unreleased. It's an ok song, but not one of their best.

Well, personally, I really liked this CD, even though I preffered Too fast for love. All the people who have said they hated the CD have failed to support their reasons why, and their spelling sucks. So, firstly, why should I take heed to someone who can't even express themselves well? And secondly, I think music is more of an objective thing, it's either your style or it isn't. So even if you think it's total crap, or if you loved it and think its the best thing to hit this planet, I bet there'll always be someone who hates what you like and like what you hate. What I took all this time trying to say, is that you can't really judge art, in any form.

If you like to rock to a hard, raw edge sound, then add to your collection Motley Crue's: Shout at the Devil. It's dark lyrics pale in comparison to some modern day Goth/Death/Heavy Metal bands such as Marilyn Mansion, Rammstein, etc., but the sound is as hardcore and menacing as any band of today. With the deep driving bass of Nikki Sixx, screaming vocals of Vince Neil, and pounding drums of Tommly Lee, the album will send the neighbors locking their doors. Pop it in your CD, turn the stereo up to "10", and enjoy! Motley Crue is debately the best band to come out of the 80's and this is their masterpiece. Buy with no regrets.
