Free Music Review: Theatre of Pain, a hard to rate album.
Hit: 4 Stars

The Theatre of Pain album came out in 1985 right when hair metal was starting to take over the scene. Now Motley Crue were always more glam then hair, but in this album they are full blown hair metal, and thats not nessecarily a bad thing. However, this album pictures Motley Crue at there worst shape, all 4 members were dependent on drugs and it was starting to slur there music and song writing. Along with the fact a few songs were over played. Let's look at the cd packaging.

Cd is remastered perfectly with bonus tracks and is in hard cover case. 5/5

Inserts - alot of cool photo's, linear notes from the band members, and song lyrics are all included. 5/5

Song time

City Boy Blues - This is my favorite track on the album, its got good lyrics and good music to go along with it, a great opener. 5/5

Smokin' in the Boys Room - This song is one of the most over rated, and over played Motley Crue songs, it dosen't even sound that good, if it weren't so played it might not be so bad but in this case it is, I do listen to it but not very often. 2/5

Louder Then Hell - This is a short song, with some good lyrics and good music to back it up, my 2nd favorite song on the cd. 5/5

Keep Your Eye on the Money - This song was a message from the band telling them not to sell out and make sure you know your audience, its an ok song with good music. 4/5

Home Sweet Home - This is the better of the singles for this cd, but this one isn't that good either, its highly over rated but its better then smokin'. 3/5

Tonight (we need a lover) - This song isn't that bad, its got ok lyrics and ok music, but just not that super, 4/5

Use it OR Lose it - Another short song on the cd but this one sounds decent. 4/5

Save Our Souls - this song seems a bit repetitive, but it still sounds ok, just not superb. 4/5

Raise Your Hands to Rock - This song is not that good, Vince's voice sounds annoying on it, and the music isn't that good and its short in time length. 2/5

Fight for Your Rights - This song is good, it had good lyrics and the music is good enough to back it up. 5/5

Bonus Tracks -

Home Sweet Home Demo - This demo actually sounds better then the song, if they had put this one on instead of the one they did, it would have been a better song. 4/5

Smokin' in the boys room - It dosen't have the harmonica on it, which does make the song sound a little better. 3/5

City Boy Blues - This demo is actually better then the song they put on it, and I love the one they put on it. 5/5

Home Sweet Home instrumental - this is ok, just its not that good. 2/5

Keep Your Eye on the Money - Once again, this demo is better then the song. 5/5

Tommy's Drum piece - This is a rare track that has alot of value for true crue fans, 5/5

Along with a video for Home Sweet Home - that video is ok, but not good enough. 3/5

So over all if they had put the demo's on it instead if would have sounded alot better, it would have sounded more like Shout at the Devil. However they were in the studio for months doing this cd, and it was way too over glossed.

overall rating - 4/5

Free Music Review: Welcome to the Crue's Theatre...
Hit: 4 Stars

Step inside the Motley Crue's "Theatre of Pain" and let me tell you a story. Twenty-two years ago back in 1982, a band named Motley Crue made their music debut with their album, "Too Fast For Love." One year later, in 1983, they released the smash album, "Shout At Devil." With their very successful tour in support of the album, the group's popularity had risen to super stardom. To capitalize on this fame, in 1985, they came out with one of their best albums to date, "THEATRE OF PAIN." Together, this band consisting of Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Tommy Lee, they created an album unlike any other Crue album before its release up to this date. The album is very musically unified along the group's experimentation with different types of sounds and instuments. Nikki Sixx, the main writter if the album's material wrote some of the Crue's best songs to date.

The albums's opener, "City Boy Blues," is a Crue classic and deserves an A+ all the way. The lyrics are great, Tommy's drum beats are phenomenal and the rhythms by Nikki and Mick are out of the world with some excellent lead guitar solos. The next track, the remake of "Smokin' In The Boys Room" is just outstanding and is definitly one of the Crue's best songs to date and is outstanding live. The ballad "Home Sweet Home" is the Crue's best ballad to date hands down. They have some great ballads but this one is so much more better. The opening sequence is a piano playing and Vince's vocals are so passionate and the guitar work is undoubtably fascinating. This was the Crue's hit single of the album along with "Smokin' In The Boys Room."

The last two tracks, "Raise Your Hands To Rock" and "Fight For Your Rights" are great closers to a great album. The first one in an anthem just in the title itself. Any rock finatic will love this one. Then last track "Fight For Your Rights" is a great tune although I think the order of the last two songs should have been switched. This is the album of 1985. It's loud, head-banging and is pure Motley Crue. I already had two Motley Crue albums but after I bought this and listened to it once I became a Crue finatic. This album is sure to do the same to anyone who buys it. Step inside Motley Crue's "Theatre of Pain" and enjoy the show!

Free Music Review: Excess Starts To Show The Crue The Way To Hell
Hit: 4 Stars

After the sucess of Shout At The Devil and the stardom that followed, Motley went back into the studio and made themselves a sure hit with Theatre Of Pain. Great...only a few hundred problems....the band is thrashed from excessive touring....the band is seriously f*cked up from substance abuse....Nikki is doing heroin...Vince kills Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle in a drunk driving incident...the list goes on and on. Motley Crue begin to self-destruct. Theatre Of Pain is a decent album. More radio friendly & now that the Boyz have become MTV icons with the Home Sweet Home video, these songs will be played into the ground. Smokin' In The Boys Room is a cool cover tune. Louder Than Hell, City Boy Blues, Use It OR Lose It & Save Our Souls are my favs. Some filler here. The household name that is Motley Crue has been fleshed out with this album and the ensuing world tour with Loudness opening for The Crue. Nikki OD's. Vince does his jail time. and off to rehab they all go before someone ends up planted in the ground. Could have been harder is what you'll be saying. After the perfection of Shout, its hard to follow up, especially when plagued by that many demons at once. Still a solid effort and a classic, just not perfect.

Dig it!

Free Music Review: Smokin'...
Hit: 4 Stars

what can i say? "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" is just plain fun - how can you not like this song?!? they captured the original spirit of the song and put their own motley spin on it. (the video really made it for me, tho. when i hear the song i immediately think of those early days of mtv...) and of course, Raise Your Hands to Rock and City Boy Blue are smoking with vibe. they always give their all - absolute balls to the wall.

now there is the obligatory power ballad, Home Sweet Home, but at least they do it well. the 12 string acoustic intro is just beautiful... and, yknow, this is afterall one of the seminal 80's pop/metal albums - how could it not have a power ballad... the extra track of Home Sweet Home is an instrumental demo version, its pretty cool. really lets the guitars shine.

this album is just a great mix of punk, rock, power metal, and pop - the definition of the bad boys' version of glam.

Free Music Review: Not Just Home or Smoke
Hit: 4 Stars

Most people when they think of this Crue CD (or as when I originally got it back when it came out on cassette) they tend to label it the "Home Sweet Home" album. Or they also recall the popular cover of "Smokin' in the Boys Room." While those are certainly good songs in their own right and everybody used to vote for those videos on MTV (especially "Home") I always felt this collection was more about the "other songs." It starts with what might be my fave Crue song ever "City Boy Blues" which might be Nikki Sixx's best lyrics and the chorus is powerful "I just can't seem to break the shackles of the City Boy Blues". Other non-greatest hit gems include "Keep Your Eye on the Money", "Use it or Lose It", and the best part of getting this enhanced CD is the extras which have a great twist on "Smokin'..." Overall, it fits the label of "Crucial Crue."
