Motograter's brand of Techno/Tribal Aggro Metal is still exceptionally cool. Powerful, tribal tinged drums weave together the onslaught of clean, deep vocals, acidic Death growls, blasting guitars, and samples. It's as addictive as it is aggressive.This is a completely new and unique metal band. Some their intros sound similar to the first Korn album, but the sound is can't be classified any more than that. Most of the reason for this is that in the place of the bass guitar, they brought in a completely new instrument, the motograter. It is basically a bass guitar with its neck cut in half, put on a rolling stand, and is played with drumsticks. Its strings are made of just big springs. Overall, it's just a very new, unique insane metal sound.I think that they were going for the sociopolitical jugular, attacking anything war-related, as shown on Fight. It also covers the obligatory lyrics of the metal area, such as death and destruction. The CD is great nonetheless; the whole production of the album is exceptionally well done. This CD is very powerful in terms of percussion. This band leans on the tribal side of drumming, which goes well with the tone of the guitars and the style of singing used. "Grater" the band's founder explains that he was always one to try to change things, to approach music in a different way. They definitely succeeded in inventiveness; if you listen to the album you will notice many different percussion elements thrown in, so don't expect too much on guitar coz they don't relying on it too much. The vocals on this album change a lot as well. Some songs start out with a slow melodic tone, and out of nowhere comes a violent scream. This CD is very unpredictable, and the vocals stand out above most of the band. Caution if you are TOOL fan, you'll find a nice surprise.This CD has 22 tracks, but don't be mistaken, as only 11 of them are full songs. Basically the odd numbered tracks are sample tracks, sort of used as introductions to the next song, and the even numbered tracks are the songs themselves, most peole complain about the odd tracks but i take it as nice complement for the songs,they are all less than 20 seconds so you could just skip the tracks though.Overall this CD is great. I highly recommend this CD for any and all fans of percussion.Motograter Poster
