Free Music Review: A Sparkling Diamond
Hit: 4 Stars

Mixing music hall and opera with occasional doses of rap, tango, jazz, chanson française, electronica and bollywood style music, Moulin Rouge's soundtrack is what you might definitely call hyper-eclectic. As you can see from the track list, anything from Your Song to Nature Boy and Roxanne was thrown in, reworked, rearranged and revamped and it doesn't only hold together, it works amazingly well. The highlights include David Bowie's version of Nature Boy, the hyperactive Sparkling Diamonds (a medley of Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend and Material Girl) sung by Nicole Kidman, and an operatic version of Elton John's Your Song wonderfully performed by the multitalented Ewan McGregor. Other attempts are less successful, Cristina Aguilera-Pink-Lil Kim-etc.'s Lady Marmalade is a bit lacklustre and Fatboy Slim's Because We Can is annoyingly repetitive.

The first CD features a lot of covers and remixes that weren't used in the film, but the second CD is made up almost entirely of music that was actually in the movie. Here you'll find the film version of Sparkling Diamonds, a wonderfully operatic version of The Show Must Go On sung by the excellent Jim Broadbent, some very beautiful instrumental music and a remix of One Day I'll Fly Away by Nicole Kidman that's as good as the version used in the film. One minor complaint: Kylie Minogue's extremely funny rendition of The Sound of Music is sorely missed!

Free Music Review: spectacular but not Spectacular spectacular!
Hit: 4 Stars

I love the film I love the music... Basically I'm a huge MR fan.... still I'm nopt satisfied! I still miss a few songs, like for instance the super SmellsLikeCanCanMarmelade-medley song, the film version of Fly Away, the full version of my breathtaking favourite "Roxanne Tango".... and the end version of "Come What may"....
I know this review doesn't hold anything new.... It's basically just a wish for a third and SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR MR soundtrack wich can make you jump infront of the mirror screaming like a fool yet again..... believe my I have already done this a lot with the two I already own....

Free Music Review: Music that's crazily smoooth...
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a great thing to buy if you liked the MR movie because it has almost every song you could want. Almost - there's a few songs (such as Kylie Minogue's appearance) that are omitted and I'd much rather have had them than the instrumentals provided on the second CD or the Lady Marmalade remix (I do like that song, but you can hear it too many times.) Practically every song on this though is enjoyable and there's a nice range of different types of music. Overall it's a rich and exciting selection and getting two CDs is a bargain.

Free Music Review: Not quite as complete of a soundtrack as I would like to be.
Hit: 3 Stars

If you are hoping that the whole score and all the musical numbers are found in the collector's edition, you will be disappointed. First, the tracks are not ordered in the manner as they occurred in the film. Song bits from the "Sound of Music" and from the Green Fairy are missing. You don't get the film version (which sounds way better!) of "Your Song" or "Children of the Revolution" on either disc. "El Tango de Roxanne" would've been better if the intro dialogue was included. I personally would've liked the soundtrack collection to include some of the notable lines/quotes from the movie as supplemental tracks. The collection is good, but you aren't getting everything that you hope to. My solution to this problem, buy the dvd, capture the songs to your computer, and create your own soundtrack! I created my own "soundtrack" (for my own use) and it's better than the collector's edition could ever be!

Free Music Review: Tolerable not Horrible
Hit: 3 Stars

I'm very open to new types of music and films. When I first saw Moulin Rouge, it had wonderful music. It wasn't what I expected and I was blown away. Buuuuut this cd that I purchased didn't contain all the music that I had hoped for. The first cd had a majority of the good songs but the second one had the minority. Total waste of money. Still, I liked some of the music but I felt cheated when they didn't include some of the others. I wouldn't say that I'm not fully disappointed but I am. Guess I should of stuck with Andrew Lloyd Webber. U_U
