Free Music Notes for Moulin Rouge, Vol. 2 [Music from the Motion Picture]Free Music Review: Spectacular, Spectacular! Hit: 5 Stars
Hoorah, the second Moulin Rouge album, this time including the superior original film versions of Come What May & Sparkling Diamonds. While I adore the first album (in fact anything to do with the film), I was slightly disappointed with the short length, & the omissions fo the films funniest moments- Jim Broadbent singing the gloriously camp Like A Virgin & The Pitch. Step forward album 2. This album also includes 2 beautiful instrumentals of Your Song (though these could have, perhaps, been combined to allow more room for other tracks), the fabulously dramatic The Show Must Go On & Acension/ Nature Boy from the death scene. However, the same gripe appears for the second album -it is too short! At 11 tracks ( the Craig Armstrong Romeo & Juliet 2 album has 25 tracks ), I was once again mourning the omission of other tracks from the movie. I am a huuuge fan of the movie & of the wonderfully clever & emotive score, & if they release a third album, I am sure I will be the first to spend my hard earned cash on it! However, I would have rather sacrificed the album versions of some of the numbers on the first album, for more of the missing numbers from the film. So although I give this album full marks for it's content, be warned that there are still some tracks missing. However, credit where credits due- Armstrong has delivered a fabulous collection of superior movie-music, that is as uplifting as it is heartbreaking, & that would work even if you have not seen the film. Strongly recommended.
Free Music Review: Spectacular, Spectacular!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Finally, I get to hear some of my favorite songs from the movie in my car. With the first CD I found myself skipping to the songs sung by Nicole and Ewan and skipping over Beck and other singers that do nothing for me. As a Broadway lover, this is the kind of movie and soundtrack for me. I love instrumental scores and this one has a few, but a few are enough for me to be able to finally have Jim Broadbents fabulous version of "Like A Virgin" on CD. Along with the version of "Come What May" that Nicole and Ewan sang in the film and "Spectacular, Spectacular" which is one of the funniest songs ever. The only thing that is missing for my own personal enjoyment is the version of "Come What May." that is sung at the end, because it is filled with so much emotion that every time I watch it I end up in tears. I also enjoy the combination of songs everyone sings after that, "No matter what you say, the show is ending our way. Stand our ground, for freedom, beauty, truth and love." and the way it combines all the songs together, it's the perfect song before the tragic end. I guess my point is that I love this soundtrack. This one was made for people who LOVE the movie and not just the music. So, generally I like it.:)
Free Music Review: necessary to complement the first soundtrack, I still want more songs though! Hit: 5 Stars
I am a VERY big moulin rouge. I simple LOVE the movie. Not just the actual movie, but when I watched it for the first time (and every other time after that) the music just blew my mind away. I love it.
The first soundtrack was good, and it has great songs that are not repeated in the second soundtrack like "your song" with best-voice-ever actor Ewan McGregor, and "Elephant Love Medley".
The second one includes the great instrumental songs and some of the ones that I was upset had not shown up on the first one.
I do think that even both soundtracks put toghether are missing songs that show up in the movie and are excellent. Like the song with the "green fairy" (Kylie Minogue) and the actors singing children of the revolution. Also, when Nicole Kidman sings "One Day I'll Fly Away" in the movie, Ewan McGregor also sings in a part of the song, and this doesn't show up in the soundtrack either.
Anyway, just to say that the first and second soundtrack are GREAT. But I do think that a third soundtrack might complete the collection.
I liked the second CD better, but if you liked the music from the movie, buy them both, and you'll enjoy it!
Free Music Review: Warning! Review submitted by HUGE fan of Moulin Rouge! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is a must for fans of Baz Luhrmann's film Moulin Rouge (of which I am obvoiusly one). Even though, I hesitated to give it 5 stars because of three (albeit minor) points. The first is the Tony Phillips remix of One Day I'll Fly Away. While the (previously released single) remix version of Come What May grew on me, I can't imagine this one doing the same. I like the version on the first soundtrack much better. The second point is track # 10 - Ascension/Nature Boy. The music is beautiful and I am very happy that it was included but all of the track lists I had seen prior to the release of the CD listed Ewan McGregor as the artist and I was so looking forward to it being a full version of the song Nature Boy performed by him. Oh well. My third and final negative would be that some of the tracks (mostly the ones noted as original film version) didn't sound quite a crisp and clean as all of the songs on the original (first) soundtrack.Overall, this CD does merit 5 stars and I am quite happy to have it in my collection (thanks to the powers that be). Hmmm - now if Ewan McGregor would just get in the recording studio and...a gal can dream!
Free Music Review: Could it get any better? Hit: 5 Stars
So i thought that the first instalment in these soundtracks was great (and it was) but the purchase of this sequel is a must if you want the full effect. With the original film versions of these songs, sung by the stars of the movie, you get the real feel that was the magnifisence of Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGregor is still by far the star, with his talent spilling over the dramatic lovesong 'Come What May' and 'Your Song', but Nicole's brilliant performance as Satine definatly takes front and center in 'One Day I'll Fly Away' and the film version of 'Sparkling Diamonds'...I have noticed that many complain about how the first soundtrack did not include the film version of this song...well you need this CD then...you will not be dissapointed. Other highlights include 'Like a Virgin' which is downright histarical, and the dark cover of 'the show must go on' which highlights the tragidy behind this tightly woven tale. THis is one must have soundtrack for your ever growing collection. A perfect companion to soundtrack number 1!
