Free Music Notes for Moulin Rouge, Vol. 2 [Music from the Motion Picture]Free Music Review: This is the soundtrack I wanted! Hit: 5 Stars
The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack tended to follow the pop-songs-to-promote-the-movie formula. This second offering is more of what I wanted, a compilation of the movie's signature pieces. The highlights include "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)" and the hilarious "Like A Version," both of which I'm amazed were not on the original soundtrack. The instrumental versions of "Your Song" and the briefly-used "Meet Me In The Red Room" also made this worth buying. If you're like me and walked out right at the beginning of the credits, then you missed out on rousing version of "Bolero" that was used. Fortunately, it's included on this soundtrack. If you loved the movie, you really must buy this CD.
Free Music Review: Very Arty, Very Moody, Very Bloody Good Hit: 5 Stars
What was missed in the first soundtrack has now been completed. And while I agree with a few fans, that certain song demands have not been met, I'm ready to forgive Baz, because what has been missed has certainly been made up for. This album is certainly a lot darker, certainly a lot more depressing. Most songs are from the second half of the film, so of course deal with the jealousy and hate in the movie. I like to thing of it though, as a tribute to Satine. It involves all her songs, they mostly revolve around her, and the order suggests her biography almost. Normally I don't go for that sort of arty thing, but I can say that this accomplishes the need for Moulin Rouge absolutly. Now, for MR3...
Free Music Review: A great follow up for the first soundtrack! Hit: 5 Stars
After listening to the first soundtrack to Moulin Rouge for so long, this new cd is wonderful! I am so glad that they put "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)" on there because that was one of my favorite songs from the movie. The "Like A Virgin" is also an entertaining song to listen to. Both of the instrumentals of "Your Song" were excellent. But, I think my favorite surprise on this new disc was "Bolero", the song put with the end credits. This is an amazing song that I can listen to over and over again. It's got something different about it that I just can't put my finger on. So, if you love the movie & the first soundtrack, I would definitely buy this cd!
Free Music Review: Finally, a complete soundtrack - even if it took two CDs! Hit: 5 Stars
I was pleased with the original soundtrack for I heard it before seeing the movie. I though the music was great, but I kept hearing about these songs that were in the movie but didn't make it to the CD. Then I saw the movie and was a little disappointed in the CD for not including great numbers like "The Pitch (aka Spectacular Spectacular)" and the great MGM musical version of "Like a Virgin." This new volume has those numbers, plus "The Show Must Go On" and all the other interjection of short musical bits laced throughout the film. I wish they would have included these numbers on the original, but better late than never!
Free Music Review: Missing something, but still great Hit: 5 Stars
I first listened to this right after seeing the movie for the first time and listening to the first soundtrack for months. I was hoping for some of the more musical songs and not as much of the other stuff, since a lot of the songs on the first CD were only played in the movie for about half a minute. I was disappointed that the 2nd CD didn't have the introduction to the Moulin Rouge with all the different songs being played. The Pitch also seemed to be a shorter version. I sill enjoyed it a lot, but it seems like there's enough material to make another CD of this quality though it would have been nicer to just make this CD even better
