Free Music Notes for Moulin Rouge

Free Music Review: Moulin Rouge
Hit: 5 Stars

An innovative and interesting soundtrack and brings the musical back to hollywood:

Track 1.: A good song for David Bowie fans (I am not one, but it wasn't an altogther bad song). A little too moderate in tone, however.

Track 2.: The song that's hitting the music charts. Nice for the radio, but not much else.

Track 3.: An interesting song that sounds like an energetic, updated Can-Can song for 2001.

Track 4.: A good mixture of Monroe's "Diamonds" song and Madonna's "Material Girl". Nicole Kidman actually doesn't do a bad job in portraying both singers.

Track 5.: A sort of pointless but energetic song that almost directly copies the song sung by Estefan.

Track 6.: A nice take on Elton John's ballad by Ewan McGregor. His heartfelt sincerity makes up for his inexperience, and he actually turns out to be rather charming.

Track 7.: A nice, short song by Bono and Gavin Friday.

Track 8.: Nicole doesn't have the delightful charm of Ewan, but she doesn't do too badly in this solo. She actually sings with feeling and depth, if not with great talent.

Track 9.: Possibly another radio song; but this one is certainly better than Track 2. Beck doesn't do too bad; but he's obviously not the highlight of this soundtrack.

Track 10.: Probably one of the best tracks, with a medley of love songs sung by Ewan and Nicole. Delightful love medley (using from Elton John to U2 songs), which flows convincingly.

Track 11.: A nice, pleasant duet by Ewan and Nicole. Perfectly emits the tenderness their two characters have for each other.

Track 12.: A surprisingly fun song. Ewan sounds appropriately desperate. Great music!

Track 13.: Unfortunately, I did not like this one sung by Rufus Wainwright. I guess they put it in because they needed one French song on the album. Might appeal to other listeners, however.

Track 14.: One of my favorites of the album. Great music, all with an exotic flair. Almost has a feeling of doom behind it. (Wonder what happens in the movie during this song?)

Track 15.: Another version of Track 1, this time Bowie joined with Massive Attack. Less sleepy, but still not spectacular.

All in all, a worthwhile soundtrack for those who enjoy musicals with a modern twist. Proves that even actors and actresses can sing! Certainly a good introduction to the movie, and makes me interested in seeing it. It will certainly be a "Bohemian Storm"!

Free Music Review: I *LOVE* It!
Hit: 5 Stars

The soundtrack is awesome! I haven't seen the movie...yet, but I couldn't wait until after I saw the movie to buy the CD since I've heard a song or two before. At first I only bought it for "Lady Marmalade", but now it seems so over-played I've fallen in love with some of the other songs. "Elephant Love", "Your Song", "Come What May", and "El Tango de Roxanne" are my personal favorites. I'm a Ewan fan, go figure. But he is *absolutely* splendid on the soundtrack. Nicole isn't too shabby herself. Is it just me, or do accents end up making voices sound so much better when singing? Anyway, the rest of the CD.

Nature Boy- What Ewan said in the beginning is what caught me. It just gives me goosebumps!

Lady Marmalade- Much too over-played. I think a lot of you agree on it, and I'm not much of a fan of Christina.

Because We Can- I like it. Faced-paced, it gets you moving...

Sparkling Diamonds- "Diamonds are a girl's best friend!" Ain't that the truth!

Rhythm of the Night- Dance! Dance! Dance!

Your Song- Ewan sings it. 'Nuff said. =Þ

Children of the Revolution- Not exactly one of my favorites...But it's cool.

One Day I'll Fly Away- One of my favorites. Nicole really does have a nice voice.

Diamond Dogs- Same thing with "Children of the Revolution"

Elephant Love Medley- OMG! This is the *ultimate* song (besides "Come What May")...10 of my personal favorite love songs. You wouldn't think they could combine all of them, but they pulled it off and it's *awesome*!

Come What May- AAIIEE! Both Ewan and Nicole sound *amazing*. When Ewan sings, it just makes me melt. ::sigh::

El Tango de Roxanne- A very good one. Has a ballroom-ish tome to it. Hence the word, tango, in the title, but it makes you want to grab a partner and tango across the room.

Complainte de la Butte- French...Sooo romantic, even though I have no idea what it all means. I take Spanish, not French.

Hindi Sad Diamonds- It has a great techo-ish beat to it. Another one you'd like to dance to.

Nature Boy- Eh...Personally, I like the first version better.

Over all...I LOVE the CD. It's one of my all time favorites. I haven't been able to stop listening to it for the past week or so. I reccomend buying it. As for watching the movie, I don't know yet since I haven't seen it, but it should be good. Heck, Ewan being up there on the screen is enough for me :)

Free Music Review: Am I really giving this 5 stars?
Hit: 5 Stars

To be honest with you I only bought the album because I looked at that the track listing and noticed it had Fatboy Slim, Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, Pink, Beck, and David Bowie, so it looked like a great buy.

(1)Nature boy
David Bowie
a great song and slow.

(2)Lady Marmalade
Mya, Pink, Lil' Kim, and Christina
if you have not heard this song you are living under a rock.

(3)Because we can
Fatboy Slim
a club mix and the only club mix on the cd

(4)Sparkling Diamonds

Nicole Kidman, Jim Broadbent, Caroline O'Connor, Natalie Mendoza, and Lara Mulcahy
A combinations of songs from Madonna's "Material Girl" and "Diamonds are a girls best friend" made famous from Marilyn Monroe

(5)Rhythm of the night
Valeria
A song orginally from Debarge and I didn't really like it when he came out with it and the remake is not any better. you be the judge

(6)Your Song
Ewan McGregor and Alessandro Safina
Who knew the guy from Star Wars can sing.
A pretty emotional song with Alessandro singing in the background

(7)Children of the revolution
Bono, Gavin Friday, and Maurice Seezer
This song rocks from beginning to end.

(8)One day i'll fly away
Nicole Kidman
A smooth ballad

(9)Diamond Dogs
Beck
Produced by Timbaland so you know the song has to be good. With its eerie beginning to its uptempo end, this song is one of the best

(10)Elephant love melody
Nicole Kidman, Ewan Mcgregor and Jamie Allen
Another combination of resung songs from Dolly Parton, David Bowie, Elton John and many others

(11)Come what may
Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor
The only duet between the two of them. A romantic ballad, a little to cheesy for my taste

(12)El Tango de Roxanne
Ewan McGregor, Jose Feliciano and Jacek Koman
The Police are back. Based on the hit from the group Sting was in.

(13)Complainte de la Butte
Rufus Wainwright
A ballad song in complete French (if you could not tell from the title)

(14)Hindi sad diamonds
Nicole Kidman, John Leguizamo and Alka Yagnik
Probably the best dance song on the cd.

(15)Nature Boy
David Bowie and Massive Attack
This is a resung remade or just a remix of this song. Amazing bass in this song, if you like bass.

Free Music Review: The most original movie musical in years!
Hit: 5 Stars

For any fan of musicals, and pop music in general, this is an absolutely essential CD. It is the soundtrack for the new film, "Moulin Rouge," which is the first post-modern musical. Although it takes place in Paris in the late 1800s, the brilliant concept of the film is to have the songs be pop hits, mostly from the 70s and 80s, and a few old standards and showtunes thrown in for good measure. But none of these songs are your regular, run-of-the-mill covers. These versions literally redefine the songs and revitalize them for the 21st century. None of the songs have ever sounded better, and in many cases they have been transferred into different musical genres than that from which they were first conceived. For example, Sting's "Roxanne" becomes a tango, and "Your Song" becomes an operatic aria. And the key word here is "opera." These pop songs are all elevated to operatic standards, especially in the album's greatest track: "Elephant Love Medley." Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, as lovers, sing to each other in an amazing and theatrical blending of many love songs well known in pop culture. And the brilliance does not end there. "Sparkling Diamonds" blends "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" with...what else?...Madonna's "Material Girl"! And the soundtrack also displays the characters of French prostitutes singing....Patti LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade". In short, this is one of the most amazingly and perfectly well-crafted soundtrack albums I have ever heard, with a rich diversity of music and styles. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor have startlingly beautiful singing voices...and yes, that's really them singing! If the movie, which I am now even more looking forward to seeing, is close to as good as this album, it might end up being one of my favorite movies of all time. My only complaint is that not all the songs from the movie are included on this album. I hope a second volume comes out shortly, with "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Sisters are doing it for themselves," "I wanna dance with somebody," and a few other songs that are in the film.

Free Music Review: For something completely different - and fun!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to Moulin Rouge for a couple of days now and always, unfailingly, it makes me smile. This is an eclectic collection of music and performers but they fit together well.

I've heard Ewan McGregor sing before, on Chemical Brothers' "Setting Sun," and he was quite good. Here, he outdoes himself. He is sincere and passionate, and even when he sings "I will aaaalways love you" in the Elephant Love Medley, which really IS a medley! - close your ears if you need to for just a second - you believe him. Now, Nicole Kidman was a very pleasant surprise. No, she isn't better than Dido or McLaughlan but she has a lovely voice that she controls well, and what she lacks in vocal strength, she makes up for in the acting department. And her "One Day I'll Fly Away" is extremely poignant - on certain days I can imagine myself shedding a tear to this song.

Roxanne simply rocks! It's an impassioned, dark, WICKED number, and the addition of Ewan's voice in the background adds another degree of intensity. Hindi Sad Diamonds is another of my favorites, that starts with the anxious repetition of "I only speak the truth," and finishes on a sad note by Nicole. Beck's interpretation of Bowie's Diamond Dogs is very interesting. Bowie himself sings Nature Boy, a lyrical introduction to this collection, and then repeats it with Massive Attack that add another whimsical touch to the CD. Another great, entertaining, dance all night away number is Because We Can Can Can!! by Fatboy Slim who hasn't produced a bad single for a soundtrack yet. The spirit of Moulin Rouge clearly comes out in all these numbers.

I'm no fan of the divas that sing Lady Marmalade hence I will not pass judgement on it in this review. Children of the Revolution that features U2's Bono is not very memorable.

This is a CD that will surprise you and will definitely touch you. I am looking forward to the movie - with such a soundtrack, it has to be something else! And I want to see Nicole Kidman perform Sparkling Diamonds/Material Girl in person. And here her sing Come What May with Ewan onscreen. Enchanting.
