Free Music Review: PLEASE RELEASE THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK. Its worthit! Hit: 5 Stars
FINALLY they made a movie that resembles a musical. This movie as its soundtrack sweps you away with songs singing and colors and quick and funny dialog and superb acting (my favorite being the elephant part in the begining) . I was amazed to see Nic sing, I had heard Ewan before. Though I had not heard them together they carry each other off rather well. (and I greatly admire nic for not using a voice double alot). The woman has guts and she showed us once again that she can act (and apparently sing and dance) beautifully. I wish someone will releace the rest of the soudntrack soon. Who ever heard of a movie that is like a musical and ALL of its songs arent listed? I have seen the movie 3 times already... and I cant wait for the next cd to come out. I am assuming there will be one since there was a second one of Romeo and Juliete as well. There are incredible songs missing from the cd. -Satines song in the curtains before she collapses -Like a virgin -So exciting! It will last for 50 years -The show must go on -Here we are now Entertain us -Got some dark desire... outside it maybe raining but in here its entertaining.... -Come what may (end version) In short all the songs with Harold Zidlers character are SADLY mmissing from the cd... Personally next to Nic, I thought he was the best of the whole cast! Also I think for those of us who bought the first cd really early because we recognised a good trailer when we saw one, that the second cd should also include the Remix of the song that was omitted in the first cut of this cd. Bravo everyone that got involved in this soundtrack. It is breathtaking and funny at the same time... (or did you not see the like a virgin scene?)PLEASE RELEASE THE WHOLE CD ASAP. judging from other peoples reviews I am guessing there is a long line waiting to buy it!
Free Music Review: Truth, beauty, freedom, and love... it's all here! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is the perfect companion to the film. If you haven't seen it, you may wonder about the endless "EVERYBODY CAN-CAN!" on "Because We Can" or some of the wonders of this soundtrack... and of course it is not for everyone. But I think it's absolutely wonderful that Baz Luhrmann reinvented the movie musical. Sure, they're idealistic, but everyone can use an escape from the sometimes depressing atmosphere of our world every once in a while! Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman do fabulous jobs on this CD and I commend them for doing their own singing. Nicole sounds like an angel on "One Day I'll Fly Away" (that song pulls on my heartstrings every time)... and must I add that I could fall asleep listening to Ewan's soothing, dreamy voice? You have to love a guy like Ewan's Christian who will sing "Your Song" and "Come What May" to the love of his life. (That man must go on Broadway! He'd be excellent!) Two of my other favorites are the "Elephant Love Medley," which is a blend of a bunch of modern love songs that Ewan and Nicole sing to each other confessing their love for one another, and "El Tango de Roxanne," which is a very climactic scene in the film and a very moving musical piece by itself. Even though some of the songs from the film are missing, like "Spectacular Spectacular (So Exciting, It Will Run for 50 Years)" amd "Like a Virgin," I think the CD is worth it if you loved the film (and I've heard talk of a second soundtrack too, which is what Baz supposedly did for "Romeo + Juliet"). If you believe in truth, beauty, freedom, and love... please, see this movie and buy the CD. It's a fabulous work of art.
Free Music Review: Because We Can Can Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this soundtrack on impulse. Wanted so much to wait until all the frenzy ceases. But found that perhaps my feelings and legitimate "lust" for the music for Baz's latest epic remake of French social revolution at the Moulin Rouge are beyond the control of me. Heard songs (hits, rather) like Come What May, Your Song (Elton John) and (of course) LADY MARMALADE on the radio and all over Singapore, and I thought I really should make these gems part of my music collection. It's interesting how little effort the crew and music team put in to come out with a soundtrack that far exceeds previous mammoth successes like Titanic, Pearl Habor and even The Land Before Time. Insuperable collaborations with music masters and think tanks of remake-wizards: The MOULIN ROUGE! soundtrack has relived every scene of the movie and of course the original essence of the notorious French nightclub of the 1900s. El Tango De Roxanne came as quite a nice surprise for its distinctively Spanish touch despite Moulin Rouge's French-English (and oh yes, Bohemian) setting. The performers are also blowing, Ewan has a shockingly powerful and choral voice (should have made a better solo artist!), while Kidman appalled me with her wide range (Hindi Sad Diamonds). The only regret is that the soundtrack does not have lyrics included, and that's quite a fair bit of injustice done to a musical-soundtrack. If you are looking for crazy remakes of cute songs like Like A Virgin, Spectacular Spectacular (Can Can Dance) and The Show Must Go On, you might be disappointed as they are not included in the CD.
Free Music Review: SPECTACULAR movie, SPECTACULAR soundtrack! Hit: 5 Stars
After being thoroughly dazzled by the movie (enough to place it as one of my 5 favorite movies), I went and got the soundtrack. I stalled for a couple days because I was a bit concerned about the fact that not all the musical numbers from the movie are included. Then I threw that out the window and bought the CD. I love it. I am throughly impressed by the voices of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman...they both sound beautifully and are really expressive. Because of it, Ewan McGregor is now on the top 5 list of stars I'm in love with. The songs used in the film are well-picked and help emphasize the emotions. And they also add comic touches...I couldn't stop laughing at the men's chorus singing "Like a Virgin" (sadly, not on the soundtrack) or the Narcoleptic Argentinian singing Sting's "Roxanne." The only songs I actually listen to are the ones sung by the cast, and the "Lady Marmalade" remake, which is very well done. To make a long story short, I agree with the people who say more songs from the movie should have been included. I am a bit disappointed, but what's there is quality and I wouldn't mind a second soundtrack. Speaking of the movie as a whole, it is high quality. The visuals are amazing and has a beautiful "love conquers all" type theme. The thing I enjoy most is that it is a musical movie, a genre that even Disney has begun to phase out of. I'm glad Baz Luhrmann resurrected it, because it really adds to the overall effect. SPECTACULAR movie, SPECTACULAR soundtrack!
