Free Music Notes for Moulin RougeFree Music Review: Soundtrack's good, Movie's good Hit: 5 Stars
As soon as I saw the first preview for this movie at the movie theaters, I wanted the soundtrack. So, I got it the very day it was released, and I really have enjoyed it. This soundtrack accompanies the movie very well. Though the song Nature Boy by David Bowie is rather slow it is still good. Lady Marmalade performed by Lil' Kim, Christina, Pink, and Mya, is a good cover of the original, though I don't really like the rap part of the song, it still goes together well. One of my favorite songs on this CD is Fatboy Slim's Because We Can, it is a techno rendition of the can-can, and is very fast. I really enjoyed the cover of David Bowie's Diamond Dog's by Beck, it's a much slower version, but is still good. The interesting thing about the CD is that it's split pretty much in half, half the songs being by artists, and then the other half from the movie. The movie songs are also very good, they are some of the more notable one's from the movie, though not all, and it's interesting to see how many songs by other artists are mixed into each song. Everything from Heroes by David Bowie to Material Girl by Madonna. The only bad thing is that if you've seen the movie then you know what songs are missing on this soundtrack. Hopefully they are planning on releasing a volume 2, or something, with the score, mixes of songs, and some other in movie songs, because there are some I would like to have.
Free Music Review: Amazing soundtrack to the most amazing Movie of the year. Hit: 5 Stars
Moulin Rouge is a phenomenal film that everyone has to see, and the soundtrack is just as phenomanal. Warning: See the film before getting the soundtrack, it will ruin a few surprises that you will not enjoy as much if you have already heard them. Nicole Kidman is perfectly sexy and Ewan McGregor is so passionate. Do they have great voices-no, but they they fit perfectly together and the both sing with so much passion that you will fall in love with the songs they sing. Most noteably is Diamonds are A girls Best Friend and The Elephant Medley. 2 songs that mix 70's and 80's pop. The most beautiful track is Come What May, the best ballad of the year that is the best tearjerker song to be recorded in a long time. Other highlights include the sexy remake of Lady Marmalde which I know all of you have heard. Christina belts, Mya purrs, Lil Kim raps, and Pink shines on the cover making it one of the best tracks of the year. Newcomer Valeria is wonderful on her new dance version of Rythym of the Night. Her vocals are strong and hopefully will be releasing a full length solo cd soon. If you loved the movie the album will not disappoint, except for a few songs that were in the film not included on the soundtrack. If you haven't seen it you will still love it but won't know the meaning behind all the songs. Either way see the film, buy the soundtrack. Hopefully you will love it as much as I did.
Free Music Review: Eclectic and fabulous Hit: 5 Stars
I bought the CD several weeks before I saw the film, and I loved it from the minute I put it into my stereo. While the movie is truly wonderful (romantic and emotional as all get out, and visually stunning...everything you could want from a movie musical), the soundtrack is, if anything, even better. The songs here are purer renditions than those which appear in the movie, which is probably a good thing - the songs in the film wouldn't translate well into a recording. This CD is also just the highlights, but what's missing isn't crucial (those of us who really loved the film can wait for the complete cast recording). There's some great dance music here - Lady Marmalade is a spectacular remake, and Hindi Sad Diamonds blends Eastern and Western music into an intoxicating mix. There are also some wonderful ballads - I love the humor and romance of Elephant Love Medley, and I truly enjoyed the inclusion of Your Song, one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. The one completely original track, Come What May, will be nominated next year for a Best Song Oscar - mark my words. As for the singing done by the actors, I have to say that they carry it off quite well, especially Ewan McGregor (if I thought he was hot before, he's ten times more attractive now!). This soundtrack truly fits the film perfectly - bold, flirtatious, and incurably romantic.
Free Music Review: "There was a boy..." Hit: 5 Stars
So the concept of actors doing their own singing may not have started here, but here is a classic example of where they got it right. You think that Phoenix and Witherspoon did great chanelling living legends, then take a gander at Kidman and McGregor creating legends out of thin air. Kidman is great with her sultry tones and breathy delivery of Madonna's 'Material Girl' or her elegant 'One Day I'll Fly Away', all of which pitch perfect just as in the movie, but it's Ewan who really steals the show. He soars, takes his voice beyond anything I expected in songs like 'Come What May' which is the beautiful theme song sung duet with Miss Kidman and his verse towards the end of 'Roxane' where he steals the song out from under Jose Feliciano and Jacek Koman feet and holds on tight. Other vocal talents lent their voice, such as the much talked about Lady Marmalade cover staring Lil' Kim, Mya, Miss Aguliera and Pink as well as David Bowie lending his voice to 2 versions of Nature Boy (although I like Celine Dions version better) Fatboy slims reinvention of the Can Can is entertaining, but replay value is low unless your at a party. No, it's the subtlety in songs like 'Your Song' and as I mentioned the beautiful 'Come What May' that stand out as the highlights of this soundtrack. Give it a try, Ewan and Nicole worked damn hard for this.
Free Music Review: A perfect memento of the film! Hit: 5 Stars
First, let me say that I have read all the previous reviews and am happy almost all of the people have embraced this soundtrack as well as the film. They are both truly amazing. Even though I think you have to be a fan of musicals to be open to the experience of this film and its music, most of the problems seem to stem from those who bought the soundtrack first then saw the move, which is understandable since the soundtrack was released first. Since the movie is a musical and the songs are taken out of the context of the film, it is difficult to know how these songs relate to each other and to the story sight unseen. I have experienced this before, buying cast recordings before having seen a production of whatever musical it happened to be. This soundtrack is more like a cast recording, too, thankfully, in that all the songs are in the same order as they are heard in the film, thereby helping you relive the story and experience. The film had such atmosphere, and that atmosphere is recreated and represented well in the selection of songs included on the soundtrack. P.S. I saw the movie last night (loved it!) and will probably see it again at least once. I will be listening to the soundtrack over and over for a while. Now, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the DVD!!!
