Free Music Notes for Moulin RougeFree Music Review: above all, LOVE Hit: 5 Stars
This film has been met with some cynicism by film critics; I, for my part, shared that cynical view until I was "talked into" going to it over the weekend. I was wrong. This film and Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon are what I constantly hope for when I plunk down my hard-earned cash. It is not reality nor does it pretend to be; it is good old-fashioned story-telling. Folks, this is a musical. That simple fact may be what the critics are having a hard time with; when is the last time that they have had to critique a musical. This one is a spactacular, flamboyant, over-the-top finale to the "red-curtain trilogy" by the guy who brought us Strictly Ballroom. The music is an anachronistic blend of pop tunes and period-styled music that serves to lower the watcher/listener into the twilight world of "fin de cicle" France and its decadent underworld. I believe that it accomplishes that. Suspend your disbelief (as my drama couch would say), and go see this movie; then go out and buy the soundtrack because the music will stay with you for a while. This movie has managed to make some of this music "new" again. It goes beyond being just mass entertainment. Give yourself an escape to a world that might have been, and lose yourself to the music of love.
Free Music Review: perfect soundtrack to go with one of the best movies ever Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this album right when it came out, even before many people had heard Lady Marmalade, because of the Beck songs and the songs by Massive attack, as they are some of my favorite artists/bands. But after i finally saw the movie, i gained a whole new perception and appreciation for this soundtrack. The movie is one of the most intriguing, stunningly great musicals i have ever seen, and also one of my personal favorite movies of all time. the song that nicole sings "someday i'll fly away" is my favorite, and is stunningly goregous. This album has kind of been a fluke for the mainstream. The album is for artsy people usually into indie movies (like i am) and musicals. This movie and soundtrack is not mainstream. Lady Marmalade has misguided the whole maistream. We got on the topic of this last night, and one of my friends says "Dude, if that movie is anything like that video, im seeing it!" It shows how miseducated mainstream america is about this movie, but without that song, the movie would have made about 1/5 of what it has made now. And it is one of the top 35 grossing movies of 2001. If youve seen the movie, you probably already own the soundtrack, or you are dying to get it. Definately buy it if you dont have it.
Free Music Review: the work of a genius Hit: 5 Stars
there is rarely a fantastic soundtrack that will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day with its haunting music. the only other example that i can think of a fantastic soundtrack is the one from another movie by another Baz Luhrmann movie: Romeo and Juliet. he has one excellent way to express the feelings of the characters in his movies by the soundtrack. the music really represents Moulin Rouge from each character. i saw the movie twice, and loved every moment of it. and by just listening to the soundtrack clips from this website, i have found my new favorite cd, with the exception of two songs. but since the maricles of cds, i can go right to my new cd and live in a peaceful bliss of the world of the moulin rouge. it might just be my extreamly artistic side, as all of my friends have told me who dont like the movie, or it might be the increadible work of a genius. i dont know, but he has the best way to make movies and music and intertwine them like magic, just like the extreamly unique gifts that he has given towards the sometimes ungreatful audience, opened only to the ones who are crazy, as some would say, like him, or just love his crazy way of expressing himself in extreamly unique and captivating way to show his artistic self.
Free Music Review: Love it....but they left some things out! Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is incredible! I lover every single song on it - even the French/English song by Rufus Wainwright! Ewan McGregor has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard - the passion and pain in his voice is enough to make me weak at the knees! He truly is an incredible talent in a million different ways! And Nicole Kidman has proven that she can belt out a song beautifully! I applaud her for her great effort on "One Day I'll Fly Away" and the duets with Ewan! I love that songs from the movie have been included - but where is the dialogue that precedes each musical number? This amusing and sweet dialogue adds to the song - it is sorely missed! David Bowie's "Nature Boy" is eerily haunting - it gives me the chills. But the film version feautring John Leguizamo would have been a better representation of the movie soundtrack! And "Roxanne" is so heated and heartfelt - I can picture the movie cutting between a torn Christian, a terrified Satine and the dancing on the Moulin Rouge dance floor. It places the images into your head beautifully! Though it is missing some of the songs I loved best, it is still an awesome CD and an even better movie - I recommened both and give them each 5 stars! *****
Free Music Review: Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
This amazing soundtrack perfectly complements an amazing movie. I didn't catch on to the Moulin Rouge craze that my friends were in until earlier this summer. Since then, I have seen the movie several times and the soundtrack is constantly spinning.
I particularly enjoy the songs that are sung by the cast, primarily Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor's songs. Ewan McGregor has an amazing voice, for someone who was not trained in singing!! My favorite songs on the soundtrack are "Your Song" and "Come What May". The former is McGregor's rendition of the song and just has a great sound. The latter is a duet with McGregor and Kidman. The song blends perfectly with their two untrained voices and produces a lovely song, definitely one of the soundtrack's best.
Rufus Wainwright's Complainte de la Butte is worth listening to; it's a very very pretty song, similar to something you'd hear on the Amelie Soundtrack. El Tango de Roxanne, Sparkling Diamonds, and One Day I'll Fly Away are also notable songs.
I won't point out the shortcomings of the soundtrack [mainly the absence of some songs]; many other reviewers already did. I highly recommend purchasing this CD!!
