Free Music Notes for Mozart Edition: Complete Works (170 CD Box Set)Free Music Review: Excellent value Hit: 4 StarsFor less than $1 per CD, you can own the complete works of Mozart! This box set is an incredible value and does include some great orchestras as well. I highly recommend this box set for anyone that enjoys Mozart.
Personally, I imported all the CD's into iTunes and wirelessly play them to my home stereo while I am working around the house. It's relaxing and pleasant and I don't listen to the same thing day in and day out (since there are so many days worth of music here).
Free Music Review: All of Mozart's beautiful music in one box set Hit: 5 StarsI purchased this set back in May when it was Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day at an amazing price. Hands down, this is one of the best things I have ever purchased from Amazon. I've listened to at least one cd from this set everyday since I have owned it. This treasure chest of a boxed set contains Mozart's complete works, including his symphonies, concertos, serenades, divertimenti, dances, chamber music, church sonatas, string ensembles, violin sonatas, keyboard works, sacred works, concert arias, songs, and operas. Some of the performances have an early music feel like you've gone back in Mozart's own time. Many of the recordings are done by specialists on period instruments or in a period style. Mozart wrote a tremendous amount of music in his short lifetime. Honestly, he wrote more than many composers who lived to be twice his age. His compositions number well over six hundred, which rounds out to around two hundred hours of listening time you get in this set. Some pieces last less than a minute, others can take more than three hours to listen to. To me, Mozart is a very universal composer. People everywhere, of all ages, can enjoy his music. Even if you know nothing about music, you can still enjoy most of it at first listening. Mozart's music has a magical combination of lightness and joy; it just makes you smile and feel good when you hear it. Mozart's music touches people and makes our hearts and minds feel things in a way words can't. The effect that he has on us, more than two centuries after his death, has definitely not diminished. My favorite work by Mozart has always been his Requiem KV 626. It is a very dark and instense piece of music. It makes you feel as if you were looking your own mortality in the face. Another thing I wanted to mention about this set that I think seperates it from others is this one comes with a CD-ROM that you put into your disc drive on the computer and 100's of pages come up containing endless biographical information about every piece of music Mozart ever composed. This is a wonderful cd set and I know any one who purchases it will not be disappointed and get a lifetime of enjoyment listening to Mozart's beautiful music.
Free Music Review: Beware of missing cds! Hit: 4 StarsIf anyone gets this, make sure you count the cds. Don't just count the sleeves but pull every cd out of the sleeves to make sure they are there.
On both my mozart 170 cd box and my Vivaldi masterworks 40 cd box I had all the correct sleeves but on the Mozart, vol.7 cd6 was missing and a duplicate of vol.6 cd5 was in it's sleeve. Thankfully Amazon replaced the box.
On the Vivaldi, which I purchased from the marketplace seller called Caiman for 45 dollars, cd 36 was missing and a duplicate of cd 23 was in the cd 36 sleeve. I contacted Brilliant Classics and they say they will send a replacement cd which never showed up after a month so I return it to Caiman. Then the replacement cd shows up in the mail postmarked a full month after they said they would send it. I ask Caiman to send the return back to me but they refuse to send it back or replace it. They just jack the price up by 100 dollars and tell me to buy it again. Thankfully their post office is slow and I was able to fill out a 1509 form at my PO to have the package recalled back to me.
The music is great now that I can enjoy it. It's worth all the trouble!
Free Music Review: Amateur's response Hit: 5 StarsThis is my first review ever. The so-called Bas Ramselarr Complete Works of Mozart is a winner. The price is amazing (I paid about 60 cents per disc, and I've seen the prices cheaper) for CDs recorded by mostly unknown artists (at least to this American), but I have yet to find one I didn't think was performed competently and with sensitivity to Mozart. And there are some very well known artists and groups (Salvatore Accardo, Gil Shaham, Colin Davis, Franz Lizst Chamber Orchestra) dotting this wonderful collection. Sound is superior. I guess I could be happier with this purchase, but it's hard to see how. Maybe I'll find a lemon tucked into one or more of the 170 discs, but not so far. Kudos to the producers and to Amazon for making the collection available at such a low price.
