Free Music Review: Solid
Hit: 5 Stars

This is just plain good rock music. It lacks the polish of later grunge, but the edgy style is great. Every song on here is worth a listen

Free Music Review: Before the Grunge Explosion ...There was this Seattle band
Hit: 5 Stars

This album here contains The Superfuzz Bigmuff EP that first came out in 1988 pre-dating the grunge explosion in 1991. I first got the EP a few years ago (maybe 8 or 9) & wasn't too impressed. I first heard about Mudhoney through reading an article about the band, Nirvana, Kurt was influenced by this band as well as many others. But, Mudhoney was at the start like Soundgarden at this sort of "new" genre of music. Both bands were on the Sub-Pop label at this time & within a year Nirvana released A Sub-pop release w/ "Bleach."
About two or three years ago when I bought this album containing 12 tracks ('88-'90) instead of just the 6- song EP, I was and still am Blown away of how good it really sounds! Mark Arm, is the lead vocalist - And the rest of the band plays a wall of distorted guitar,bluesy-rock, and a heavy blend of garage, metal, psychadelic screaming punk! Don Peters (you may reconize the last name from Nirvana's Incesticide) beats the hell out of the drums all through this session. This album YELLS: PLAY ME LOUD! Definately more "In-your-face" sounding and a heavier dosage than Iggy Pop and The Stooges w/ their "Raw Power" release in 1972 or '73. And you can see the similarities and influence on this Cd. My favorite songs on this are: Opening track "Touch Me I'm Sick" - "Sweet Young Thing Ain't Sweet No More" - "You Got It (Keep it Outta My Face)" - and "In 'N' Out of Grace"; all better, nastier and more chaotic than anything put out by Nirvana. Mudhoney is the band that should have went BIG! Of course a lot of mid - late '80s music went un-noticed by the mainstream public.
If you are interested in grunge or just like heavy good rock music, please consider this, especially if you like The Stooges. This is the "grunge" album to get. Better (IMO) than all the others! 5 stars

Free Music Review: 3 1/2 stars
Hit: 3 Stars

back in the day the critics had me all up on this album. it was getting 5 stars here, there, and everywhere. well, that was back in the day. i no longer respond to this stuff as i once did. it did not hold up with time. it is a fine, stooges influenced slice of garage rock, and nothing more. well worth having, but not essential rock and roll.

Free Music Review: The grunge superstars
Hit: 5 Stars

When this came out they were the band that everybody thought were destined for greatness and stardom, not Nirvana. I remember going to see them and not Cobain and his boys because this was much much better in our opinion. Shows us we were wrong on one account: they did not make it big time as Nirvana would but they weree good, very good.

Free Music Review: must have mudhoney
