Free Music Notes for Black Holes & RevelationsFree Music Review: the muse evolution is going in the right direction Hit: 5 Stars
the first time i heard this album, i had to listen to it again.
i first heard muse about back in 2000. I thought Showbiz was a great album and I was very surprised that Muse wasn't popular here. Even after the release of Origin of Symmetry which is another extraordinary album, Muse wasn't popular here and it drove me crazy. You can tell that with the new album, their skills are artists where polishing up and Origin with a tight album flowing like a good book. With the release of Absolution, they started getting some radio play here and I got to see them. Absolution confirmed that this band is naturally developing their talent and with Black Holes and Revelations, they have taken that talent and put it where they want it. It is sensational.
The lyrics are so deep and clever. I was floored not only the how blanant they are, but the images they produce are throrough and inspiring. It takes guts for a band to put their politics down in the way Muse has. It is thrilling. I respected them as artists and musicians, and now I worship them.
Black Holes and Revelations is gutsy, forceful, diverse and solid. Musically and lyrically, it takes you on a journey. You may love it; you may hate it. But you will feel something about it, regardless of where you fall and an artist that can make you feel in such a way is amazing. I give them a lot of credit and respect. They've done it.
Free Music Review: My kind of Muse Hit: 5 Stars
I've never been a Muse fan, I've never liked a single song by them, infact the only thing about them which ever struck a chord with me was a few decent guitar riffs. This album however, is a completely different story!
Supermassive Black Hole instantly caught my attention as soon as I heard it. I thought it must have just been a one-off, but I heard samples of some of their other songs on this album and I liked what I was hearing so I chanced it. I couldn't believe what a great album it is, even more so considering I never even liked this band before.
Another thing which I always hated about them was their messy tiny production combined with dominant piercing vocals. This album sorts all that out, it's very nicely produced and the vocals have been pushed way back in the mix which is awesome. Every song is good to great, at first Supermassive Black Hole was my fave, but Starlight is also fantastic. It is a modern day classic. These days more and more I find myself singing Map Of The Problematique to myself, this is such an amazing song. It has a lot of atmosphere and emotion, it's everything a great album track should be.
I still don't like old Muse, but I love this! Anyone who doesn't like old Muse, give this a chance, I think they've finally found themselves and shown us a potential which not all of us gave them credit for!
Free Music Review: Progress = GOOD!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit, I would never have bought a Muse CD previous to this album. I had heard of them before, but they weren't really my cup of tea, so to speak!
This all changed when I first heard Supermassive Blackhole on the radio. I was pleasantly surprised to be informed it was Muse. Starlight only reinforced my changing opinion of them.
I purchased the CD and I initially found it a little inaccessible besides the first two singles. After a few listens these preconceptions faded away. I am always attracted to bands that progress. Changing the 'sound', experimenting with new instruments and styles are always preferable to those lesser bands that stupidly resist any form of progression. I hate Razorlight! (arrogant aswell!)
Muse have done themselves a great favour in this album as I am convinced they have garnered themselves with new fans that wouldn't otherwise have considered listening to them. As to the idiots who cry 'sell-out', I simply don't understand that, if they have introduced Dance and Electronica, aswell as 'pop' elements to their sound, so what? Are you suggesting that these are inferior genres to 'rock' - most people acknowledge this is not the case... Those people who aren't able to adapt there listening styles and reject any form of development are just reactionary philistines. Go away.
Free Music Review: They've outdone themselves. Hit: 5 Stars
All I can say about this album is... wow. It really leaves me speechless. I mean, I thought Absolution was amazing and that there was no way they could improve on that piece of art until I heard their new album! Fan-friggin-tastic! What really caught my attention on this album was Supermassive Black Hole. I listened to the first ten seconds (literally) and fell in love with it. Since then, I've FORCED everyone and anyone who was willing to listen. This is one of the albums that just get better as you listen to it.... it's IMPOSSIBLE to get tired of. I've seriously heard some of the songs 60-70 times and it sounds better every time. Flawless. Absolutely flawness. That's saying something because I'm a really, really, tough critic. Muse is both entertaining and enlightening. It's definitely not a fad. There's too much depth to be ignored.
One suggestion - if you enjoy the album, GO SEE MUSE LIVE. They are BRILLIANT. If the tickets cost an arm and a leg, be sure to have a chainsaw at hand. They're really worth it. They're really that good. Not many bands can make their music sound better live. Matthew Bellamy (Vocals, guitar, piano) is seriously TALENTED! His performance was nothing short of perfect! I sat through two hours of MUSE and felt like the luckiest person alive. It's worth losing your hearing. It's worth your soul.
Free Music Review: Best Indie Band Best Album of 2007 Hit: 5 Stars
I was super-skeptical about Muse, having only heard the overplayed hit "Supermassive Black Hole" (which is a great song, just way overplayed on Alt Nation). After hearing that song a few hundred times, I thought Muse was just a one-hit wonder and a little too synth-pop for my taste. However, I heard Knights of Cydonia once, and decided to pick up the album. So glad I did! Now, Muse is on my list (along with Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and a small number of living bands) as at least a potential All Time Favorite - another 2-3 albums like this one and they will cinch that spot for me!
Fast paced, soaring, "big" music. Reminds me of The Moody Blues at their very best (and I am a huge fan of the Moody Blues!). Muse has a style somewhere in the triangulation among Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues and Emerson Lake & Palmer; but of course they are talented and it would not do them justice just to say that alone. So many good songs. I strongly recommend listening the the album from start to finish - like Pink Floyd, Muse's music hangs together as a whole and individual "radio" hits are more enjoyable as part of the hole. Having said that, Starlight and Knights of Cydonia are fantastic, definitely my "turn it way up" favorites on the album.
Buy this CD!!!
