Free Music Review: Only Muse could do something like this
Hit: 5 Stars

There are many factors to take into consideration when reviewing a live album: the setlist, the response of the crowd, the performance itself. The fact that this is a live album made by Muse makes it even harder, dude to the arena quality of every one of their records since Origin of Symmetry.

To begin, let's clarify the concept behind the title. HAARP is the acronym for the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, a US military-funded project in Alaska concerned with beaming high-frequency radio waves into the ionosphere. The controversy over such project is obvious for the effects it could have not only over other countries but on humans as well. And if you have paid attention to the pattern of Muse's recent lyrics, we can easily tie this up as one more link in the chain.

It is also worth mentioning that the setlist varies for both the music disc and the video disc. Which makes it the more satisfying when watching the DVD because it is not a mere repetition of the CD.

Thirdly, the setlist. It is basically the same they used throughout the whole tour to promote Black Holes and Revelations. Something that could have been improved for the two historic Wembeley gigs. Here is where the slight disappointment shows: there are two unforgivable omissions that should have been included as higlights of their capacity to move a large audience into submisssion(Sing for absolution and Bliss). Also surprising is the decision to open this tour with a track created in its entirety to close with a bang (Knights of Cydonia), and rather close it with an obvious opener (Take a bow).

The real climax of this live recording is not in the bombastic noise of Hysteria or Stockholm Syndrome, but in the resurrection of a song many of us have only dreamed of hearing performed live: Uninenteded. If it's true that they sacrificed oldies like Sunburn and Muscle museum, fans favorite in eveyr tour, the inclusion of an almost aocustic segment is one thing that most of us appreciate as a proof that their power lies not merely on the hard sound but mainly in Matt's incomparable voice.

Made to enjoy from beginning to end, HAARP is one live recording everyone should own.

Free Music Review: I Love Muse
Hit: 5 Stars

Muse have been making great music for nearly a decade and it surprises me how overlooked they get in the musical landscape. This CD/DVD should help them join the ranks of the best rock acts in the world. I have been reading the negative reviews of the DVD and I could not disagree more with everybody's opinion that there is too much crowd shots, and not enough action on the band playing. Yes, the camera does pan to the crowd a lot, and sometimes the camera moves too quickly, but by panning to the crowd it shows how much everybody is enjoying the show. Meanwhile, Bellamy and the boys are able to have great showmanship and pander to the crowd terrifically.

This DVD was shot over two days at Wembley stadium and you can tell how passionate Muse and their fans are about their music. The beginning of this DVD has them rising out on a hydraulic platform and into a stream of confetti, and then they burst into "Knights of Cydonia" which is an amazing song that gets the crowd excited. They follow that up with "Hysteria" keeping the crowd enthused, Bellamys solo on this song is amazing and will keep in you awe every time you listen to this CD or watch this DVD. The other big time highlights on the DVD are "Butterflies and Hurricanes" "Invincible" "Time is Running Out" "New Born" "Plug in Baby" "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Take a Bow". Each of these songs they play on the DVD sound amazing and they even add a little bonus at the end of "New Born", and "Stockholm Syndrome"

This is a terrific DVD/CD combo and should be purchased by any Muse fan. My only complaint is that they should have put "Plug in Baby" on the cd instead of "Unintended" as it is a much better song and would fit better with the other songs on the CD.

Free Music Review: You know, I already liked Muse a ton...
Hit: 5 Stars

... But this stupid live set had to put it above just about every band that I like and love (aside from Dream Theater). I don't typically buy too many live DVDs of bands, but, I had heard by a lot of people that Muse puts on one hell of a great show. Since I would someday love to see them live personally, I figured I'd see what I was getting myself into.

I was a little constricted on time, but I got through just about all of the DVD portion. Let's be honest, I didn't care about the CD part of it. I DON'T EVEN LIKE THE SONG "KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA" THAT MUCH! And they made it terrific on their show. Everything was near perfect. So thanks to this stupid set, I was late to an engagement I had to be at, because I seriously was completely enamored with their talent. Matthew Bellamy sounds every bit as good live, as he does on the studio albums, if not BETTER! There isn't all that much Origin of Symmetry or Showbiz on here, but, enough to satisfy I'd say.

I would point towards those who are huge fans of Black Holes and Absolution to buy this set first and foremost. Buy it even if you love Showbiz and OoS. Actually, just buy it. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll miss tomorrow's really boring management meeting due to having too much damn fun watching Matthew Bellamy completely eradicate your chances of wanting to listen to anything else for the next couple of days.

Free Music Review: Great Live DVD/CD
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great concert with wonderful tracks and impeccable sound. It is as close to perfect as it can get save one thing.

Matt Bellamy is a pacer. He literally paces back and forth when he's not in front of the mic. Because of this.. a visual style is being used to mask this.... It has been taken to the extreme. The editor seemed to have Attention Deficit Disorder and is unable to focus for more than a few seconds at a time.. and then jump to another camera. It really seems spastic.. but it doesn't make it unwatchable and sometimes really suits the tension of the music.

Muse is considered one of the best live bands touring today and Bellamy is considered one of the to 20 guitarist of all time (according to some english list. Anyhow.. this is a concert DVD that does the justice. The live sound will astound you.

If you are unfamiliar with Muse.. then this is a good introduction to their music and is a very inexpensive way to get a feel for their sound and progression as artists.

Give it a shot.

I rate this 5 stars because it comes with the cd as well and the price is a complete steal for a live dvd cd set.

Free Music Review: Energetic, Artistic, Amazinig!
Hit: 5 Stars

The CD/DVD combo is a must have for all Muse fans. The DVD is so much fun to watch and really captures the essence of this band. It starts with the band's entrance into Wembley Stadium amid the cheers of enthusiastic fans. Every thing starts out in black and white except for a few colorful pieces of clothing on the band members. Color seeps into the packed stadium when musical genius Matthew Bellamy strikes the first chord of his guitar. From there, its nothing but an artistically shot concert, full of energy and some of the best music on the planet. The camera is in constant motion, capturing the fervent enthusiasm of the both the band and the crowd. I enjoyed every minute of it!

The CD is also quite good at capturing the spirit of Muse. Although you can hear the crowd throughout the CD, which maybe off-putting to some, I enjoyed the raw feel of the CD. While there aren't as many song on the CD as on the DVD, the most popular and many fan favorites are included.

Overall, I think that this is a product that every Muse fan should have in their collection.
