Free Music Notes for Music From the Motion Picture Josie And The PussycatsFree Music Review: More Than A Soundtrack! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is awesome! I love the songs (except for the stupid DuJour ones. Thank God there's only 2!). The voice of Kay Hanley is sharper than ever and every song she sings on it rocks. Yes, even the slow ballad "You Don't See Me". That song is very beautiful! The funny thing is, I bought the album before the movie came out. I am a big fan of Rachael Leigh Cook and know almost every thing about her and her career. So, I was with this movie while it was still an idea and followed it all the way! I blasted the music in the movie theatre parking lot and everyone was staring at my car like I was crazy. Even the cops told me to turn it down (which I didn't!). In line, several people asked me who was that band? I said, "You'll see". They looked at me funny because they were confused why I wouldn't tell them. Imagine their surprise when the movie started playing! Anyway, the great thing about this album is yes it's a soundtrack, but it's more than that... It's a Josie And The Pussycats album. Most soundtracks are compilations with various artists and a handfull of those songs are good. This is a soundtrack with every song (except 2) performed by Kay Hanley and it rocks!!! This CD gets lots of turns in my CD player and I can only hope there is another Josie movie. :)
Free Music Review: MEEEEOOOOW!! Hit: 5 Stars
Ok--I'm a HUGE fan of teen-oriented movies. So basically, when I saw the previews for "Josie and the Pussycats," I was overjoyed. Its really uncommon to see a heterosexual 18 year old guy who loves Pop music and teen flicks, but I'm right here in the flesh! The music on this soundtrack ROCKS!! When I heard "3 small words" on the preview, I fell in love! But the music sounded really familiar. Reason being: Kay Hanley (lead of the now extinct band Letters To Cleo) sings the voice of Josie! I don't own a Letters to Cleo album, but I have the Jawbreaker soundtrack, and its packed with their tunes. The "Josie..." soundtrack is now my favorite CD. Its awesome. Not a single complaint! Every song on this CD is just....WOW! My favorites are 3 Small Words, Spin Around, You Don't See Me, Real Wild Child, and Josie and the Pussycats. The Dujour songs are actually not bad at all. By reading other reviews, I thought that those 2 songs would really suck, but I like 'em!! To like CD, you don't have to be a fan of Josie and the Pussycats. You don't even have to enjoy the movie. All you have to do it enjoy great music.
Free Music Review: Josie and The Pussycats Hit: 5 Stars
I am a true die-hard Josie and the Pussycats fan. I have been collecting the comics for years. The soundtrack brings the comics to life. The music from the band "From Letters to Cleo" does an amazing job of portraying these 3 lively characters from Josie and the Pussycats. The soundtrack it an excellent combination of Rock, Punk, Pop, and Girl Rock. All the songs are great whereas on many CD's only a few of the songs are good. All of the songs have a theme and the lyrics are great. The songs are great to sing along to. I have a band with one of my friends. We always begin our warmups by singing and playing the songs on this CD. There is a good mix between fast and slow songs. The best slow song in my opinion is "You Don't See Me." I find the best fast song is "Spin Around." As a huge fan of Josie and her fellow Pussycats I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes Pop, Rock, Metal, and guitar rock. I wouldn't miss out on this CD for my life. It is a knock your socks off CD and it is great for anyone at any age. Anyone who is a die hard fan like me should definitly buy the CD.
Free Music Review: ROX! Hit: 5 Stars
TWO things: 1) To those (few) that trashed this album because they think it is "bubble gum": do you also get on a roller coaster and complain that it is a bad train because it dropped you off at the same point at which you got on? IF Josie came out and said "this is a serious attempt to make progressive music", then your criticism would have some validity. As it stands now, you are criticizing the music for not being what it's not trying to be. This CD (and movie) is just a roaller coaster not a train. Enjoy the ride or go to a train station. 2) For those who criticized the Du Jour songs: I find the songs very listenable.... probably for the reason I listed above for the whole album. They are fun, and I highly enjoy the parody. Since they were a significant part of the (excellent) film, their inclusion on the CD continues the parody theme, and allows us to enjoy their music. Overall? This is one of my favorite albums of all time. As a drummer, I find the drums very fun to listen to. It is NOT Dave Matthews band, and that is good. It is what it is.
Free Music Review: A great soundtrack to a great movie! Hit: 5 Stars
When I first bought this CD i thought it was going to be a pop CD like Britney Spears type stuff. When I put it in my CD player, I was amazed to hear a rock sound and I was like I GOT MY MONEY'S WORTH! With great songs that were all played in the movie (read my review in the theaters section), this is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. If you liked the movie, then it's guaranteed you will probably like this one. I first heard of the singer on the CD from the soundtrack to 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (another great movie and soundtrack). She has an amazing voice. I just wished we could hear Rachael Lee Cook's (Josie in the film) voice on this CD. There is a flaw on this CD though. The two songs from that boy band on the CD tottally blew it. So everytime I play this CD I program those songs out of there. The best songs on this CD were 3 Small Words, Shapeshifter and Pretend To Be Nice. Buy this CD you won't regret it.
