Free Music Review: A Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

My Chemical Romance, love 'em or hate 'em, has a sound which is unmistakable. When I first opened this record, it was different from the others, no doubt, but it would have been impossible to not hear "MCR" from every angle. With that said, the album is rather different from past releases.

With the third studio release of the band, you can hear a maturity that was missing before. While many songs are still jumpy and poppy, there's a somberness to be found in a lot of the lyrics, as well as in some of the slow songs they do.

"The Black Parade" is actually an album centering around cancer patients (hence the new haircut of lead singer Gerard Way). It's truly sad and beautiful. While there are a few moments where, lyrically, the songs tend to stray from perfection, they really are well-written, pulling at your heartstrings and keeping you listening.

Technically, "The Black Parade" is amazing. The first recording with a new drummer, you can tell Bob really fits in as percussion. Mikey Way, the bassist, is still lounging in the background with a really understated part in the songs, and his brother Gerard shows more vocal prowess than before, maneuvering through note patterns he wasn't capable of conceiving of before this album. Where the real talent begins to show, however, is in guitarists Frank Iero and Ray Toro, who, together, make parts that sink together flawlessly, and Toro's solos suddenly became blazing. He's proving himself something of a virtuoso with this album.

Overall, there can be no mistake: if you don't like My Chemical Romance at all, you won't like this. It does have their signature sound. However, if you're a fan (or just open) you have to try this album. It's beautiful, poetic, and fun, and the talent behind it is amazing. This album will stand the test of time.

Free Music Review: No One Will Rain on This Parade
Hit: 5 Stars

To start off. I have to say this. I am not, nor have ever been a My Chemical Romance fan. This sounds odd to say given the fact that i am giving they're new album five stars. This is because this album is not the old My Chemical Romance, when people look back on this band, this is the album they will talk of. To put simply, The Black Parade, will redefine how you presieve this band.

I'll admit i felt weird even purchasing the album, but upon hearing "Welcome to the Black Parade" which maybe the best song of the year (and album highlight) for sheer over-the-top magic, it deserved a chance.

The Black Parade is a concept album, a smart, compact story about death, life and everything in between. Through the course of the album we get the story of the young dead man's life, in moments as it were flashing before our eyes. "Dead!" and "House of Wolves" the latter which sounds like Aerosmith even at times in a weird way would both be great singles, as would the prepacked teen anthem "Teenagers" which sounds nothing like the earlier incarnation of the band. For sheer audacity the track "Mama" which features the man in war, covered with blood pleading to his Mom is downright startling.

Simply put, the people who everyone thought would end up as another Simple Plan have delivered a smart concept album for the ages that should propel them further into the mainstream. They seemlessly blend bands like hte smashing pumpkins and Queen (with their guitar solos) into tight songs. But, their ideas here are bigger than emo, screamo, punk, whatever you want to call it...dont let the appearance of hte band and fans scare you away, this is one hell of an album, pun completely intended.

First let me say, I am new to My Chemical Romance. I don't own any of their previous albums. What got me interested was the video to "Welcome to the Black Parade." I loved it. And I have to say that I'm absolutely blown away by this album. The two best CD's that I've heard this year so far have been Evanescence "The Open Door" and "The Black Parade." But this CD took me by complete surprise. They killed it. At first it does kind of appear like Green Day redux. And that would have been a mistaken identity, a superficial assessment. Because if you listen closely, it's an entirely different beast. Well, it will be obvious from the first song and as you progress through the album. If Evanescence is Goth Rock, then I suppose My Chemical Romance is like Goth Emo Rock. They're sort of an unusual hybrid of Green Day and Evanescence with the latter being at two different extremes and My Chemical Romance standing somewhere in the middle. I have to say that this is a very interesting an entertaining album. Lead singer Gerard Way is a fascinating character. And that is evident on a song like "Mama" where he's almost Danny Elfman like. Think Jack Skeleton in the "Nightmare Before Christmas." It sounds like the song stepped out of a Tim Burton movie. But that's kind of the cool of it. And sometimes the album has more of a musical quality like on the hidden track "Blood." At other times it reminds me a little of Queen. But in all, this is impressive. I didn't expect to like this or buy this. I think My Chemical Romance has a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to their next album. For those of you that like Green Day, Evanescence, or The Killers then I would definitely recommend this album.

Favorites: The End, Dead, This Is How I Disappear, The Sharpest Lives, House of Wolves, Mama, Famous Last Words

Free Music Review: I Love a Parade
Hit: 5 Stars

Blasting everything at peak volume and squeezing in bombast until the seams are nearly bursting, Gerald Way and My Chemical Romance revisit everything that was great about the seventies and eighties. "The Black Parade" pays homage to everyone from Queen (the title track), Pink Floyd ("Mama," with Liza Minelli adding an over-the-top cameo, sounds right off "The Wall") and Alice Cooper (the whole idea of death as a macabre reason to party loud) without losing the band's identity.

One of the coolest things about MCR is that - even through the bombast - they never lose track of a good melody. The title track turns back the clock to a childhood memory as viewed from the deathbed. "Cancer" is the kind of song Bob Ezrin and Alice Cooper would have had a field day with; the only thing missing is a kiddie chorus and this would have been a Kiss song. "Teenagers" is an hysterical sing-along with a really dark underbelly. It's hard to tell where the truth ends and the punchline starts, which is what makes it truly great.

Like "American Idiot," Green Day's masterwork from 2004, "The Black Parade" is a slice of living in the USA in the post 9/11 world. Darkly funny and obsessed with death while celebrating life, My Chemical Romance are maturing at a rate that is near astonishing. "Disenchanted" and "Famous Last Words" are the kind of songs I would have expected from a band after a couple of decades and not on their third album.

"I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone.
Honey, if you stay I'll be forgiven.
Nothing you can say can stop me going home."

It's enough to bring a tear to your eye and pull out that old double vinyl copy of "The Wall." I think these guys are officially my new favorite band.

The Black Parade. My Chemical Romance's much anticipated 3rd studio album.

The sound of the band's softmore effort Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge was a big change in sound from their debut album I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love. The Black Parade is an even bigger change in sound, even from their previous release. If you think that this album is just gonna be I'm Not okay being repeated over and over again, then think again. These songs are much darker, much more emotional, and much more epic. There are dark, metallic songs like This Is How I Disappear and The Sharpest Lives. There are epic emotional slower songs like Cancer and Disenchanted. Then there are light, upbeat songs like Dead, Welcome To The Black Parade, and Famous Last Words. Then there's Mama, which is a very weird song, but good nontheless.

I think this is probably my favorite release from the band. The songs are much catchier and appeal to me much more than their previous albums (which are still great). This album has a much diffeent sound than Revenge and Bullets. As Gerard Way has said, its like they became a different band. The only thing about the album that isn't great in my opinion, is that the cover art sucks. And the only song that doesn't get 5 stars from me is Welcome To The Black Parade, which I really loved when I first heard it, but then it got a bit overplayed (I still like it though).

I haven't listened to the album that much yet, so my favorites at this time are This Is How I Dissappear, The Sharpest Lives, Dead, House Of Wolves, Famous Last Words(the best way to end the album), and Disenchanted(probably the most epic track on the record).

Defdidently pick this album up if you get the chance. It's MCR's best to date IMO.
