Free Music Notes for The Black ParadeFree Music Review: Absolutely Beautiful! Hit: 5 Stars
New Jersey quintet My Chemical Romance have made a beautiful work of art. "The Black Parade", their third studio effort, is very different from their first two albums, "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" and "I Brought You My Bullets...", but this change signifies musical and artistic growth for the young band. Each song in this album follows a linear story about a young man dying tragically young and looks back at his life with a plethora of emotions.
Their song-writing has always been sincere and cathartic, driven along by their multitalented ringleader, Gerard Way. For "The Black Parade", the lyrics have matured, yet retain the raw power and honesty that make MCR special. This album is packed with truth, creativity, emotion, and life.
Very few rock albums have fully listenable and interesting songs, but "TBP" has 14 very diverse and enjoyable songs, allowing the listener to appreciate each one for its uniqueness. The epic "Welcome to the Black Parade" is a grande affair that gives the listener a scope of what the entire album is about. I have so many favorites on this album, but if I had to choose, I'd pick "Cancer", "Mama", and "Famous Last Words". "Disenchanted" and "WTTBP" are fantastic; "The Sharpest Lives", "This Is How I Disappear", and "House of Wolves" are chaotic, operatic, and powerful in their own right. "Blood" is a hilarious satirical ditty that proves that the Jersey boys haven't lost their sense of humor.
Buy this album; not because you want it, but because you need it.
Free Music Review: A review I did of The Black Parade Hit: 5 Stars
My Chemical Romance's third album is The Black Parade. it was released on October 24, 2006. Their first single from the album was Welcome To The Black Parade, witch first aired on the radio on September 11, 2006. On September 26, 2006, the music video for Welcome To The Black Parade was released. It reached number one in American October 15. Famous Last Words was their second single, it was released on January, 22 2007. Third single was I Don't Love You, witch was released only in UK on April 2, 2007. The forth single was Teenagers, witch was released July 9, 2007.
The Black Parade World Tour started on February 22 2007, with Rise Against, Thursday, and Muse as support acts. At the first concert of the tour in Manchester, New Hampshire, My Chemical Romance announced the addition of Reggie and the Full Effect frontman James Dewees, who will play keyboards/synth on the tour.
The Black Parade is their alter ego for this album. the premise for this record in The Black Parade Press Conference Gerard says "when you die I'd like to think, that when you die death comes for you however you want. and I feel that it's your strongest memory ether your childhood or adulthood. and for this particular character in this record called the Patent, his strongest memory is of being a child, his father is taking him to this parade. so when death comes for him, it comes in the form of the black parade."
I love this album, It's not a was of money at all!!!
Free Music Review: A Hopeful, Macabre, Angry Celebration of Life and Death. It's Huge. Hit: 5 Stars
Is the word 'Masterpiece' an overstatement here? I don't know why this album has divided MCR fans down the middle and gotten mixed reviews. All I know that it's my first exposure to them and I think this album is brilliant akin to the likes of Sgt. Pepper (The Beatles), The Joshua Tree (U2), or Morning View (Incubus).
That's a lot to say coming from someone who shudders at the idea of paying money for a punk, goth, or emo record. I can't tell if MCR is any of those, or a combination of them, or an aberration of them. The only thing that resonated with me before the first listen is that the lead singer is an Iron Maiden fan. I like the Beatles and Metallica, and have never listened to anything like this in my life.
The main thing about this band is that they have passion. The Gerard Way (vocalist) screams, cries, seethes, and basically slops heart-on-the sleeve emotion all over the whole thing with either unbridled abandon, or the best damn artificial angst I've ever heard - probably a little of both. The guitars churn, the lead solos bleed, the drums incite rage. The lyrics are gut wrenching, the concept is dark and beautiful.
Rarely does a modern record coax such strong feelings out of me. The sad parts bring tears, the biting humor is laugh-out-loud, and the hope and anger surge through every song.
Brilliant. Absolutely Brilliant. If you haven't yet, you owe it to yourself to get this, and join the Black Parade.
Free Music Review: "It Was The Roar Of The Crowd That Gave Me Heartache To Sing" Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of these guys ever since I first heard "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" when I worked in a record store and it remains my favorite of their albums, But it is a close tie between the other two. They changed a little bit on "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge" by making it slightly more radio friendly (But not in a bad way) and on this one "The Black Parade" they expanded on that sound to create a truly inventive and creatively dark experience. The listener is led down a road that alternates between darkness (Dead!) and beauty (I Don't Love You) to paint a unique and catchy portrait of a rock opera. This is hands down one of the best albums of 2006 and perhaps of all time. I haven't stopped listening to it since it came out. People need to stop giving these guys bad reviews, especially those people that admitted they don't even listen to this kind of music.....If you don't listen to it, why are you bothering to review it? Just listen to something else. For those of us that do listen to this kind of music, it doesn't get much better than My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade"..Prepare to be amazed and delighted..this is no ordinary emo/punk record.
The best tracks include: The Sharpest Lives.
I Don't Love You.
Cancer.
Disenchanted.
I am going to see these guys live in three weeks and I can't wait, it's going to be amazing.
Free Music Review: Completely over the top, dark and excellent Hit: 5 Stars
The greatest thing about My Chemical Romance is not that they remake themselves but rather that, with each album, they continue to explore the complexities of their musical style. In The Black Parade they have deconstructed and reconstructed their style into a complex, varied, over the top, theatrical production that at times may be too overproduced but yet still succeeds on each song. The theme is still dark (it is about a person dying of cancer) but shows some real thought and sensitivity (not just some quick jokes and clever lines). The Album starts off with "The End", a Pink Floyd The Wall type intro, and then moves into a variety of songs, pulling riffs that at times sound like Cheap Trick, or Queen (that is if Tom Waits was part of Queen) (e.g., "Mama") and to some standard MCR fare (e.g., "This is how I disappear") as well. Some of the songs are still a bit contrived such as the beginning of the Black Parade but MCR has definitely moved beyond its goth punk roots to show some amazing maturity. Gerard Way and company have shown that they have real substance. Which is great considering so many bands sound the same now and will not depart from the standard formula. It is still an MCR album but it is much more. So deal with the Phil Spector Wall of Sound production and get an album that shows some daring -an artistic album that pulls from the roots of rock and manages to pull off a high energy album that drives at a frenetic pace from the start to the end.
