Free Music Notes for Evil Urges

Free Music Review: A great compilation of music
Hit: 5 Stars

I hadn't listened to MMJ before but decided to give this album a try based on a couple songs I heard and some good buzz. There are a couple of strange songs, for sure, but if you listen enough you'll start to get it. If you want every song to sound a certain way, you will be put off. Similarly, I've heard that fans of previous albums were put off by some of the different sounds. However, if you don't have narrow expectations, like a lot of different kinds of music and have an open mind, you may love this album!

Free Music Review: So proud with where they have gone
Hit: 5 Stars

I first heard of and saw My Morning Jacket in May 2006 when I went to the Pearl Jam concert and they opened/did some songs with PJ. Of course, being a huge Pearl Jam fan, I didn't think they'd be any good. WRONG! MMJ is a really, really good band. Their style has changed and almost matured over the years and this is their best album, yet. I can't wait to see what the future holds and I hope they get more exposure, not to be popular, but so that more people can experience the raw musical talents of MMJ!!!!

Free Music Review: Nothing evil about it.
Hit: 5 Stars

It's always at least interesting when a band stretches itself and sees what it can do. Sometimes it finds that it can't do much outside of its niche, but sometimes us listeners score big time. This time it's the latter. Great music from a band that has just shown that it is more than one of the world's premier jam bands. These guys are great musicians making very cool music. They have now added producing a truly great album to being one of the best live shows anywhen, anywhere. Thanks, MMJ.

Free Music Review: You're missing the point
Hit: 5 Stars

I think this is a brilliant album and all the negative reviews are coming from early die-hard fans who don't want the band's sound to change. The truth is things do change and in this case from good to excellent. I have to say this is one of my favorite albums of 2008 and key words here are fun and risk-taking. Don't let the negative reviews turn you away from this, but also don't expect that early MMJ sound... these boys have grown up...

Free Music Review: Groundbreaking
Hit: 5 Stars

MMJ has broken new ground with this album. It is difficult to describe the sound they have captured on this album... sort of like early Prince/MMJ hybrid. They bring a lot of funk and energy on almost every track, and have pretty much eliminated the heavy reverb on the vocals (Which was getting a little old IMO). I still like the old MMJ sound, but this album is loaded with creativity and groundbreaking/genre-blending music.
