Free Music Notes for Fly Or DieFree Music Review: The Revenge of the N*E*R*D* Off THA HIIIIZOOK Hit: 5 Stars
First off let me tell you I am old school...my taste goes back to the 70s and early 80s....just when i almost became a complete Jazz/House (downtempo) junky since music as i knew it to be was no more, along comes The Neptunes!!!! The revenge of N*E*R*D.....after the Neptunes have made other artists HOT, and even helped others' careers, the Neptunes/N*E*R*D come CORRECT with their sophomeore LP "Fly or Die." Their eclectic old school Funk, reminicent of the 70s band "Heat Wave," takes you on a musical funkDfied journey....Oh, and those Guitar Riffs....Slammin'...especially with the one cut that Lenny Kravitz plays guitar on.....man, this is a musical masterpiece....these brothas are TRUE musicians...I remember back in the 70s and 80s when artists were true to the music, and not corporate cut outs....groups like Prince--before Prince and the Revolution--The Time, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Cameo, Sly and the Family Stone, Bootsy, Michael Jackson before the f'd up body transformation when he was black, Jimmy Hendricks, Heat Wave, etc. brought a WAVE of FUNK that was unparalleled...while relegated primarily to black radio, unfortunately most people don't hear about most of these great bands and how they have truly influenced the artists of today....This album is pure funk and creativity...the cool vibes of the synthesizer takes me back to Heat Wave and Steely Dan....Those young cats--NERD--are geniuses....keed doing tha damn thang, and continue raising the bar so other artists will have to come correct.... peace, Skinny Pimpin'
Free Music Review: This CD WILL TAKE U AWAY Hit: 5 Stars
okay, i'm going to be a bit biased, considering I've absolutely LOVED N.E.R.D with all of my heart since they first came out two years ago with "IN SEARCH OF..." now thats some music right there. the boys behind n.e.r.d, chad hugo, pharrell williams, and shae haley have done it again. FLY OR DIE IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!! every single track has its own rhythm and own message if u listen closely. At first, one might mistake many of the tracks as having a "similar" style, but you really gotta give it time if the cd seems too different. The reason it sounds so original is because we're all brainwashed by mainstream pop and rock, even the so called "gangsta" beats are nothing more than popular faces behind popular tunes. theres nothing wrong with that at all, but if you need a bit of fresh air, try out FLY OR DIE. Its totally different, but it's such a fun yet meaningful cd. my favorite tracks are Maybe, Jump, The Way She Dances, Drill Sergeant, Breakout...and now that I think about it, I love all the songs. Its a GREAT CD....something that will make u use your BRAIN. im so grateful i got to see my boys in concert a couple days ago. Euphoric experience....at the meet and greet Pharrell and Shae were incredibly humble and so intimate with their fans. It's great knowing that in an age where money seems to corrupt all the facets of an artist, N.E.R.D remains low key and down to earth. I'm glad they aren't mainstream....it just wouldn't be the same. Let this album take you one ever really dies
Free Music Review: Must Have an Open Mind Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of N.E.R.D. before their debut In Search of... came out early in 2000 here in America. The overseas album came out before it and was an instant favorite of mine. Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay are three musical geniuses who take chances with their music creativly. Fly or Die in my opinion is a classic, just like their first album. I think what makes this album better than their debut is that the songs are more polished with production. In Search of... was backed by StarTrak's band SpyMob. The first album had more of a rock feel to it while Fly or Die is a mixture of all kinds of genres that a listener will not find anywhere else. It is an album that a listener can listen to all the way through. The reason I rate this 5 stars is because after this album, there will be plenty of bands coming out that are going to follow N.E.R.D.'s sound. Mark my words. As far as the songs go:1. Don't Worry About It - 5/5 2. Fly or Die - 3/5 3. Jump - 5/5 4. Backseat Love - 3/5 5. She Wants to Move - 5/5 6. Breakout - 4/5 7. Wonderful Place - 5/5 8. Drill Sergeant - 4/5 9. Thrasher - 5/5 10. Maybe - 5/5 11. The Way She Dances - 5/5 12. Chariot of Fire - 4/5 HIDDEN TRACK Find a Way - 5/5 This album presses the limits, but the listener can not expect or prejudge this band in any way. If you loved the first album, you will love this album as well!
Free Music Review: IT'S 5 Stars
First off, I'm a Trakkie so of course this album is going to get a good rating from me. However, on a more critical and unbiased level I must say I wasn't sure how to take it at first. After listening to Fly or Die for about once a day for a week, I finally get it. I was expecting it to be a replica of "In Search Of" and it wasn't. There is alot more focus on guitar riffs as opposed to the heavy percussion "In Search Of" gave us. If you were born in my era (the '70's) you will identify with the Queen-sounding "Thrasher" and, eventhough it was before my time, the sixties-sounding anti-war "Drill Sargeant". It is incredible finds such as, "Maybe" featuring Roots drummer ?uestlove, and Lenny Kravitz which takes us into a Jimi Hendricks kind of feeling, and the creative "The Way She Dance" which makes this album come together. They definitely have a sound all their own and you can clearly hear the hip-hop influence in their lyrics and their music. The hooks and changes a phenomenal. A song may start out one way and totally turns into something else by time you reach the mid-point. Don't sleep on this album. What makes NERD a winner is its ability to "take you there", its edginess, its "we-don't-give-a-f*ck-this-is-us" attitude. If you are a true lover of music, you can't help but love this album and respect its creators. One love N-E-R-D. Peace!
Free Music Review: 2004 album of the year! Hit: 5 Stars
N.E.R.D not the neptunes have made a great cd in Fly or die and its the best cd from last year.
Here's a quick lesson.
N.E.R.D=the 3 man band of pharrell, chad, and shae that makes hip hop and rock
The Neptunes=the 2 man team of pharrell and chad that make beats for tons of artists.
Okay if you like Rap and hip hop and you want a cd that has club bangers like hot in herre and drop it like its hot,
YOU MOST LIKELY WILL NOT LIKE THIS
This cd is N.E.R.D experimenting with Rock music and making chorus fueled songs and songs with meaning and passion.
You get great guitar riffs in "dont worry about it" to a duet with good charlotte in "jump". "She wants to move" is the only club song on this cd and it is still catchy to this day.
You get a great sex song in "backseat love" and "the way she dances" and you get a heart felt breakup song in "maybe".
While "chariot of fire" is a dedication to a fan with cancer and "drill sergeant" is a anti war song.
N.E.R.D explores with sound on this cd and it's great to see where they take it. So sit and go on a musical adventure with them and see where it takes you.
Also enjoy the 3 hidden songs in this cd.
