Free Music Notes for Live at McCabe's Guitar ShopFree Music Review: A Hidden Gem Comes to Light....FINALLY! Hit: 5 StarsOkay, i should have written this review AGES ago when i bought the album (June of 1999). Apologies to Nancy for being unresponsive. But truly, each time i play this album for friends, old and young, they demand to know the artist, and they are stunned that it is our girl from Heart, AND that they have never heard of the album before. This happened just 3 weeks ago when i was held captive in California for some corporate training. i cleverly brought a boombox and loads of CDs to minimize the effects of enforced captivity. Nancy's Cd Live at McCabe's became a quick favorite among the other detainees. The collection of songs alone is so lyrical, with covers of Heart tunes as well as Simon and Garfunkel and others. But add Nancy's sweet solitary voice and adept guitar playing and you have the makings of art. What a wonderful find! What luck that you can still buy it 2 years later here on Amazon!! Enjoy!!
Free Music Review: This is a treasure.. Hit: 3 Stars...Not many people realize that it was Nancy, not her sister Ann, who sang the band's first number one hit THESE DREAMS.I don't know if there was ever any jealousy among the sisters because of it. But it never really mattered to me. The song is a classic no matter who sang it. I completely believed that it was a matter of timing that it caught on like I did. Nancy has a wonderful voice that is showcased on this CD. But the reason I'm marking down a few points for it is simply because the CD also lacks some spark. And that spark is her sister Ann. Its a wonderful piece from a musician who is long over due accolades coming to her (as a member of Heart and I am including Ann here). But for a better version, pick up Heart's THE ROAD HOME where the sisters come together for beautiful harmonies, great rocking tunes and a whole lot of fun.
Free Music Review: So-so. Hit: 3 StarsWe all know what a great singer Nancy's big sister Ann is, and that she (Ann) can blow most other female vocalists from here to kingdom come, but I must admit I'm foremost a Heart fan because of Nancy. It's really such a pity she never sang more of the Heart stuff, as I'm a total nut for her beautiful and soothing voice. (-Couldn't they've split the band material more evenly in the vocal department; 5 songs each, or something ?.) I wish I could've given this solo-album of hers 5 stars, cos' God knows she deserves it, but it's just not a very exciting live-recording. Even the collection of songs she's chosen could've been better, I find. - Hey, Nance; we want that studio album next ! .
Free Music Review: Pleasant, but without innovation. Hit: 3 StarsThis release is a pleasant, cozy listen, yet is a disappointment if you are looking for some of the innovative guitar work and arranging that the "blonde one" has proven capable of in the past. Vocally, Nancy has never sounded stronger and as expressive as she does in this recording. Nice job, but I would like her to push herself even more and show us what she is totally capable of. I suspect there is more.
Free Music Review: And I thought she could only play guitar! Hit: 5 StarsWhat a great CD. I bought the CD along with "The Road Home" thinking it would be my least favorite of the two...Nancy impressed me beyond anything I could have imagined. Her voice is every bit as expressive as Ann's, but certainly softer. As a songwriter she really gets it. Her rendition of "A Case of You" does Joni proud. "Half Moon" is....well....hypnotizing! I have been a Heart fan since mid 70's....glad to see Nancy (and Ann)still plugging away and really putting out some wonderful music. Keep up the mandolin playing Nancy, no one does it like you! I can't wait for the next one...a truly great CD.
