Free Music Review: Nappy Roots Day
Hit: 5 Stars

Nappy Roots is the most down to Earth realistic rap group from the South. To make songs about everyday life, the struggles the come with it & also the happiness that it brings is something not very many artists have a good grasp on in Hip Hop anymore. The group is made up of Skinny DeVille, Fish Scales, Big V, B. Stille, R. Prophet & Ron Clutch.

Since it is 2010, there is a noticeable amount of artists bring it back. Nappy Roots have been doing so since there debut album, "Country Fried Cess" in 1998. Their follow-up, "No Comb, No Brush, No Fade, No Perm", in 2000 prepped them for their national debut in 2002 with, "Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz". This album brought their first hit, "Awnaw" (feat. Jazze Pha). They made more noised with their most well known track to date, "Po' Folks" (feat. Anthony Hamilton) and finished the album singles off with the up-beat hit, "Headz Up".

In the late Summer of 2003 they returned firing with "Wooden Leather". The first single was featured on Madden 2004, "Roun' Tha Globe". After establishing the album they released their second single with Anthony Hamilton, "Sick & Tired". After the album received pretty good reviews but did not go platinum like their 2002 release R. Prophet left the good siting a solo career as the cause for his departure. The rest of the group continued on promoting the album and touring. The album went gold.

From mid 2004 through 2007 the group was still Skinny DeVille, Fish Scales, Big V, B. Stille & Ron Clutch. They join the high rising movement of mixtape releases that was extremely popular and not quite an essential that it is today. They toured performing their first two albums and showcasing the release of mixtapes and the quintet they are.

In late 2007 the started putting together their next studio released album. In August 2008 they released "The Humdinger" which marketed their return to the nation scene with the hit, "Good Day" that was promoted throughout Summer 2008 with a video and by DJ Gregg Street, who is on the track. The second single came in Fall 2008 with their third single collaboration with Anthony Hamilton, "Down & Out". They continued to promote the album and tour through early 2009.

Come 2010 Nappy Roots was still the solid quintet they had been for more than 5yrs. Releasing their most lyrical and most underrated album to date in August 2010, "The Pursuit of Nappyness"! It featured the hit single, "Ride", which was meant to be the lead single for Skinny DeVille & Fish Scales group & self-titled album entitled "40 Akerz". Big V also was set to release a solo album under their label Nappy Roots Entertainment Group. They moved on to release two more videos/singles in, "Be Alright" (feat. Je'Kob Washington) & "Back Home". This marked their first album where the group did not feature Anthony Hamilton on the album or a single.

If you have not given this group a chance....that is your own fault. This is one group that did not change with the times entirely & stayed with what they liked to release. Buy any of their albums.....you wont be disappointed. Stay true to Hip-Hop Nappy Roots! Your fans still appreciate your music.
