Free Music Review: Quintessential Harry Gregson-Williams

The music in the film, which I saw first, was horrible. The key moments were punctuated by music lifted verbatim from the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. I expected this score to be a rehash of the first, and was disappointed that I had preordered it. That said, when I decided to listen to it I was very pleasantly surprised.
Disney and Harry Gregson-Williams managed to get an hour of music that sounds different from the music they used in the key points of the movie.
This Narnia score is darker, more epic and altogether of a different nature than the first Narnia movie. Granted, it uses reorchestrated themes from the LLW, yet the vast majority of the score is closer to Kingdom of Heaven than to the LWW. If you like Kingdom of Heaven and LWW scores, as I do, you will love the more epic nature of this score.

I purchased the cd strictly for the tracks "The Call" by Regina Spektor and "This is Home" by Switchfoot. These are surprisingly my favorite tracks.
I wasn't very impressed by the other songs that had lyrics, but the "soundtracks" are good. Kind of reminds me of some of the songs from Pirates (without that theme of course).
Overall didn't disappoint in a soundtrack sort of sense.

The music for this CD is well done. It is mainly very good action music. There are a few of the themes from the precious movie and some lovely new surprises. Some of the newer elements are very moving. The best of these seems to suggest a feeling of great pain and can be found in the first track. It isn't quite like the first movie in style or tempo but it is worth owning.Free Music Review: such great music
