Free Music Notes for I Am...Free Music Review: NAS IS GHETTO SHAKESPEARE Hit: 5 Stars
This album is the "lick" a great piece of work from a great poet. Although I may agree with those who say this is a great album but not quite as captivating as "Illmatic" I must agree with what one previous writer responded with saying If everyone agrees that "Illmatic is a classic, then why did the album barely go gold? which in my opinion if its as great as we all seem to agree is far below what that album should have sold. I love premier and his beats but is he really the key to success for Nas to sell phenomenally large amounts of records the past indicates pretty much a half and half response yes/no. I know we live in a society that is divided along many different subjects this is no exception. Many people say he shouldn't work with TrackMasters because they're too commercial or their tracks don't coincide with his flow. Well that may or may not be true, but he stuck with what he thought would work for him. And obviously it has so I don't blame him for what he did. The album shows Nas' maturity since his last album. "We Will Survive, Ghetto Prisoners, Hate Me Now, Favor for a Favor, are all really good cuts. for an overall pretty good album.
Free Music Review: this album is one of his best Hit: 5 Stars
since nas is one of the goat,i will review this album,i copped this for my birthday back in 2001 with the dynasty album by jay-z,i was 14 at the time, and this album is hot, yea he got a couple of commercial tracks but it shouldn't stop u from listening to this album,i remember seeing an article in the daily news that it took 3 to 4 months for this album to go platinum and nastradamus which was garbage, took a month to go double platinum, can u believe that, i believe this album was slept-on,nas did his thing on this, this album is special because this is the autobiography of nas.very interesting.recommended for fans of ny hip hop, fans of nas, fans of qb hip hop,and hip hop fans.stand out tracks are the intro (even though its not a song its the beat and the flashback of all of his classics songs),ny state of mind pt.2 (hot track) ilkie the original better,Favor For A Favor,We Will Survive,Ghetto Prisoners,You Won't See Me Tonight (hot tarck with aaliyah)classic,Life Is What You Make It with dmx hot collabo, should have it more often,Nas Is Like (one of my favorite tracks) K-I-SS-I-N-G, and finally Undying Love.
Free Music Review: I Am.........a great album. Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't know what to expect when I bought Nas's third release, "I Am". I've read many reviews, many preaching that this album is great and many saying it sucks. Well, I love Nas's flow and skills and I have his classic debut, "Illmatic", so I decided to pick it up. "N.Y. State Of Mind Part II" is the bomb, the beat by Premier is phat, but Part II is'nt better than the original. "Hate Me Now" is another slamming track with a hot beat (a definite radio hit). Also, there's the hot "Small World", deep-touching "We Will Survive". gritty "Favor for a Favor", the hit single "Nas Is Like", and the incredible final cut, "Undying Love". This album was defintley worthy of The Source rating of four-n-half mics. I think this is a geat album, way better than "It Was Written", but not better than "Illmatic". I think if Nas would've shortened the album to the 10-11 great tracks and ditched the other ridicoulous ones, this would have gotten better reviews, but none the less, pick it up!
Free Music Review: Nas at his best. Hit: 5 Stars
Positives: Track 2 that samples his own song from his first album Illmatic is a very tight song. "You Can Hate Me Now" has great parts from Nas in it. The track with Scarface is dope. The song that mentions the conflict with Pac and how Nas felt about it is good. There are about four or five other tracks with really good beats. Nas is a great rapper and this is his best to date. This album is good about the whole way through.Negatives: Not much to complain about. Puffy for "You Can Hate Me Now" seems unnecessary and brings down an otherwise excellent song. The chorus is terrible. Amazing how "now" rhymes with "now" isn't it? Nas could broaden his topics but you can only rap about what is a part of your life really so I guess you have to understand. The Timbaland song, if you can call it that, is fine but it's really annoying that he has to make his voice heard throughout the song. Why do artists let him do this? It's ridiculous to let Timbaland sit there and go "yeah" and "uh-huh" over and over again just cause he made the beat.
Free Music Review: NAS IS LIKE...HALF-MAN, HALF AMAZING...NO DOUBT! Hit: 5 Stars
"I AM" is truly a hip-hop classic. What do you expect when incredible beats by the Trackmasters unite with one of the most diligent wordsmiths of all time? A masterpiece, and Nas was able to do that. Deeply disappointed by the "IT WAS WRITTEN" album, I decided to give Nas another chance and buy his latest effort. Nas is more experimentive and original; he was never one to wander into the subject of love - check out "You Won't See Me Tonight", "Undying Love" and "K-I-SS-I-N-G" - and he even rapped in another style ("Big Things"). Nas has such superior lyrical skill and delivery that none of the star guests - Puffy, Aaliyah, DMX and Scarface - could outshine him. The foundation stone, however, is "Nas is Like"; damn, much props to DJ Premier - he really did an excellent job supporting Nas' verbal assault with his always-dope beats (The intro is also off the hook, chronogically lacing together samples from Nas' earlier songs). This is definitely a must-have.
