Free Music Review: great singing of great songs

I know i gave it five stars, but how many times can you re-package his greatest hits (while adding one or two rarities). This must be at least the twentieth re-packaging of these same songs, and I keep buying them because i have an obsessive compulsive disorder. It seems like every year (or even less) there is another cd out containing the greatest hits of Nat Cole, But i feel if this is the way people can be introduced to him then all for the better. But for some of us who have been fans of his since whenever, it would be nice and thoughtful of his record company to throw us a bone every now and then. Cole is one of the few great singers who could toss off the burden of Sinatra's influence and have his own style. Frank destroyed generations of pop singers, who could not help but either sound like him or come pretty close to same in interpretation of the standards. Both he and Nat stand like monuments (pace Bing and Al) in the delivery of the great American popular song. The female singers like Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday and Mabel Mercer are a whole other story. I like Nat not just because of his beautiful voice (which i think veers more toward baritone than tenor) but also his sincerity, his diction, and his great musicality. The same goes for Frank. "The Very Best of Nat King Cole" is a wonderful collection of songs by the versatile, satin-voiced Nat King Cole, who carved out a place in history for himself as one of the very first cross-over pop vocalists of color.
A great range of songs is featured in this collection, including Unforgettable, Sweet Lorraine, Stardust, Nature Boy, Mona Lisa, L-O-V-E, and many more.
This collection doesn't have everything, but it has enough of a cross-section of hits to please most Cole fans and introduce him properly to new audiences. It has been almost 45 years since his death, but his music lives on and still gives listerners thrills and chills.

If you are big fan of Nat King Cole, or even a young listener just getting into NKC, you will not be disappointed in this offering. It's representative of all his best, (just like the title claims) and will mellow you out with his honey-baritone voice unlike anyone else in recorded history. While the lyrics can be sappy and sentimental, they are reflective of his day, and they really don't detract from the overall experience of this wonderful artist's offerings. He is every bit as influential as Sinatra, Brother Ray, or Ella; a true American national treasure. Enjoy!Free Music Review: great compliation

I must admit that I am a great Nat Cole fan. this compilation contains many tracks that you've enjoyed numerous times. I will say that a couple of gems were released on this album. His French version of Autumn Leaves is wonderful. I don't understand the language but the song is beautiful. I've also enjoyed his multi-lingual version of LOVE. He evidently recorded it in many languages and this is the result. He may not have the proper accent, but to me, his effort in each langauage makes him THE universal singer.Free Music Review: An Incredible Talent

I've always heard Nat on movie soundtracks,Christmas carols,and in various other malls,friends houses,etc.But there is a distinct difference between just hearing and listening.I started watching reruns of his groundbreaking TV show on BETJ and was awestruck by the presence of his voice and personality.I'm not an expert on Nat King Cole by any stretch of the imagination,but when I listen to this CD(usually on Saturday or Sunday mornings)I am spellbound.This is a great crossection of an incredible artist and man.
