Free Music Notes for MotherlandFree Music Review: Ms. Merchant reveals her soul and heart once again... Hit: 5 Stars
Musically, Merchant has always been eclectic and it shows again winningly in this new release...displaying her knack for beautiful, melodic tunes with a literary and social bent. Her best songs have always been those that showcases her unique and remarkable voice as in the folksy, "Motherland," and in the heartbreaking ballad, "I'm Not Gonna Beg,". But this album is chocked full of beauty and heart that it is really hard to resist. This is definitely a "grower", an album that will pull you in slowly but surely. Standout tracks: Hard to pick because you will definitely pick different ones every time. But will have to go with: Not in This Life, Motherland and I'm Not Gonna Beg.
Free Music Review: Natalie continues to produce excellent music! Hit: 5 Stars
Where in the hell Natalie can go? Definately to the top of the triple AAA charts with Motherland. She has grown so maturely as an artist and Motherland is the album where Natalie has deepened her voice for such songs as "This House is On Fire" and "St. Judas". Guest singer Mavis Staples harmonizes Natalie's voice so well. Triple A singles such as "Just Can't Last" and "Tell Yourself" might bring in new fans of Natalie, but from devoted fans of hers, the rest of the album is like candy to our ears. She so totally rocks and I encourage everybody who is into folk/blues, and her previous releases to buy "Motherland". A terrific album all around.
Free Music Review: My New Love Affair Hit: 5 Stars
My soul is stinging. Natalie's writing on Motherland emotes so many feeling ranging from sorrow to pure joy. The sound of this album is soulful throughout, yet each song has a distinct sound signature. For example, she sings in Spanish, has a song that dances in my mind like a waltz, and another that has a reggae like beat. For people who already love Natalie Merchant's music, I think you will appreciate the different sounds of this album and will gain even more appreciation for her poetic lyrics. For those who are just discoving Natalie Merchant, this album displays her amazing writing skills and her enchanting voice. This album is my new love affair.

Free Music Review: A genuine classic Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone who values musical craftmanship and fantastically produced recording material will love this. All the tracks are superb - fantastic potent melodies and spine tingling lyrics. The title track is a musical masterpiece. It is a majestic piece of sound recording. If you listen on a system that is capable of reaching the deep and powerful depths of the bass, the dynamics of the rhythms and the clarity of Natalies voice you will never look back. This is 10000 manics grown up. This is a wonderful, powerful and emotive recording that you will want to play over and over and over again. I rarely write a review but this one, really, really deserves it.
